One-liners

When you get a break how long do you get off?

It depends on which country I'm working that week.
UK work is Monday to Friday, sometimes I have to start Sunday afternoon, to get to a delivery that would be impossible from a Monday start.
EU work is Sunday to Thursday, which often runs into Friday morning.
Minimum is 45 hours off for a weekend rest. Normally it's 2 full days and the 3 nights.
Daily rest is 11 hours, which can be shortened to 9 hours 3 times a week, but it's usually around 12 hours off.

I’ve got the internet, so can look at lots of places without having to mingle with the great unwashed (y)
😆 😆
While that is true, I get to see it with my own eyes instead of someone elses camera lense.
And, have you ever tried mingling with a 40 tonne truck at speed? It usually doesn't end well.

Before El Pandemico, I used to go to Europe once every couple of months, for at least a long weekend if not longer, I fell in love with Bruges, that place really is a diamond in the rough, but just used to go anywhere, grab a cheap hotel, and just wander around, eat the food, see the buildings and museums. Absolutely loved it, plus I could pick up some cheap backy on the way back.

doesnt bother me, i dont like people and im happy about it,
For me, it's not that I don't like people - I just don't care. I find it hard to empathise. I avoid people not because I don't like them but because I don't want to have to deal with them. Other people are just there. That's why I have more online friends - I can walk away from those and they don't get upset.

I'm getting better at not being drawn into online/offline arguments, as over many years I've realised it's not worth the effort trying to explain to deliberately obtuse people that they're wrong. I will sometimes write a long, thoughtful, reasoned response, but then see some more stuff that people have posted and think 'sod it' and not post it, instead of trying to defend or explain my post further.

I know there's lots of trolls online, deliberately trying to wind people up, but as Joshua said in War Games..."A strange game. The only winning move is not to play!".

The first one should be Double underlined in BOLD, it really annoys me when I order an Americano and get asked if i want milk with it, that would make it a Machiato, or a flat white

Now you know one of the differences between an 'Americano' and a 'Long Black' ;)

An Americano CAN have milk, but a Long Black cannot!

Also the way they're made is different - so an Americano is hot water poured over an espresso, and a Long Black is an espresso poured into hot water.

...and I'm sure any proper coffee snob lover on here will tell you a 'Flat White' is also not simply a black coffee with milk!

I'll have to invent a new name for coffee that's been left to go cold and then heated up in the microwave so that the foam/crema from the previous brewing is now cemented to the side of the cup.

Maybe 'RACC' - Reheated Artisanal Coffee Concoction

Thank you for the definitions, I have never understood what they were.
At home I drink Nescafe Original (with milk and sugar, and water of course) but if I go out it is usually Luxury Hot Chocolate which is chocolate with a topping of marshmallows and cream.

Fun Fact: I've never had a cup of coffee in my life. Or tea. I'll drink a hot chocolate on extremely rare occasions when it's winter and I have to work outside, but that's it.

Ah, yes. The P&O Zeebrugge ferries are no more.
They were due to be retired, but El Pandemico expedited that event.
They were built in 1987 and very tired boats. Then emmissions rules for the North Sea were being updated, and those 2 ferries were not going to be able to meet the new rules. It would be a long and expensive job to change the engines, and not financially viable. So rumour had it there would be 2 new ferries using the river terminal that the Europoort ferries use, after some modifications. Locking in and out of the dock would mean the new ferries would be too small to be financially viable too.

During the Pandemic, the Europoort ferries kept going, only carrying freight. Those were weird crossings. 200+ drivers isolating. Coffee making facilities in every cabin (a kettle, paper cups, 2 sachets of milk, 4 sugar, 2 sachets coffee, 2 tea bags) plus 2 small cans of beer. Dinner was served in take-away packaging, and the queues were ENORMOUS with 2m spacing between each driver. Then you took it back to your cabin to eat. Same again for breakfast.
