Opinions on a build

I should've asked earlier, but well, at least it was before I have actually received it ;)

What is the best way to cancel, should I just do it via email? I looked on the website but all I found is this:

How to cancel
If you wish to cancel your order (the contract) the quickest way is to logon to your customer account area and complete our RMA cancellation form but this is not obligatory. Alternatively, please refer below to the model cancellation form which you can use to cancel the contract:

I [name] hereby give notice that I cancel my contract of sale of the following goods (enter order number),

Ordered on: [*] / received on [*],

Kind Regards, [name]

[address]

Date: 10-10-2020

[*] Delete as appropriate

And I didn't see any form.

You can just do it on the PCS main account.

That's where I looked and it mentions a 14 day period, however as far as I see it's 14 days after I receive it.

Right to cancel:
You have the right to cancel an order (the contract) within 14 days without giving any reason.

The cancellation period will expire after 14 days from the day on which you acquire, or a third party other than the carrier and indicated by you acquires, physical possession of the goods.

To exercise the right to cancel, you must inform us of your decision to cancel this contract by a clear statement (e.g. a letter sent by post, fax or e-mail). Our contact details are:

PC Specialist Ltd
Unit 12 Jubilee Business Park
Jubilee Way
Grange Moor
Wakefield
WF4 4TD

Tel: 0333 011 7000
Email: [email protected]
If you are logged into your customer account area, you may use our RMA cancellation form but it is not obligatory. If you use this option, we will communicate to you an acknowledgement of receipt of such a cancellation by e-mail without delay.

To meet the cancellation deadline, it is sufficient for you to send your communication concerning your exercise of the right to cancel before the cancellation period has expired.

Based on that it seems like I can just do it via email.

Ah, yes, does appear it needs to be email or letter and gives you the format you need to use at the bottom.

The alternative is to use the webchat on Monday morning, that tends to be manned quite well and is an immediate response whereas email could take over a week at the moment.

Alright, I'll see how it goes — I want to wait for the reply for my previous email regarding keeping the queue position before I contact them again, however if my PC goes into the building stage before then (I doubt it'd be that early but who knows), I'll contact them sooner on the webchat.

Quickest way is in emails, just explain that you want to switch it to a AMD build.
If you can link a full spec of what you want to replace the order with, they may be able to save your spot assuming the spend is same/similar.

I switched to a AMD build, they needed confirmation of the cancellation from me (via email, just had to submit the request in writing) but they also managed to hold my spot. I wasnt a straight cancel and reorder though, we spent two/three weeks trying to see if i could switch it without cancelling.... so i can say with some certainty that you cant :p
That delay trying to switch was more the reason why they honoured my place in the queue though, least from how i took it.

This is what I sent yesterday:

Hello,
I placed my order on the 17th of September and I'm in the queue for an RTX 3080 card. I'd like to amend my order to switch from the Intel platform to AMD, however the configurator only allows amendments within the same platform. Would it be possible to either:

1. Cancel my current order and start a new one, but keep my spot in the queue.
2. Change my order internally so the configurator would switch to this one.

I know that the 3080 stock is very low, and if cancelling my order and starting a new one would push me at the very end of the queue, then I'd stick to Intel.

Thanks,
[name]

Now the last statement isn't true any more as I do want to switch to AMD regardless. Another complication is that I amended my current order with some tweaks... I'm definitely not going to be their favourite customer ;) I will link them the new spec in the reply, alongside the request to cancel. But as I said, if it goes to building before that happens, I'll give them a note on the chat so they don't continue with it.

Anyway, lesson learnt. Do research before purchase and don't get too excited by GPUs...

I got a reply from the support today and they asked me what CPU and motherboard I want to change to and they're going to check whether it can be swapped. I'll probably end up in the same boat as @sibun1 (needing to cancel and reorder anyway), but it's worth a shot as all the other components would be the same (I amended the current order at some point at weekend).

Looks like they were able change it, all I had to do is pay the price difference and I will be getting the AMD build!

There's one thing that confuses me though... Now my order uses the AMD configurator for amendments and I'm able to select the new 5950X, however when I do it, the cost goes down — I would expect it to be more expensive than 3950X...

Not sure if I will actually go with 5950X (3950X is more than enough for my needs), however waiting a bit more and getting the 5950X seems like a better investment in the long term... (And, well, it's apparently cheaper.)

Be very careful, they did this with my order and the cost was £100 less than what i paid, but simply vanished in the system.
Trying to then change the case (as the cost was already covered with what i had actually paid) caused all sorts of complications, which led to cancelling and putting a new order in. (this is why they held my spot...as about two weeks of emails went back and forth over this).

I paid via finance though, so could well be different for you, but i would check the maths on the pricing...

Thanks for the info. I paid with a debit card, which I assume is easier for them to deal with, so perhaps there won't be any more complications — I will see in the upcoming weeks (I don't expect to get it very soon because of the 3080). I don't plan any more amendments (all of you here helped me perfect the build), unless I decide to wait for the 5th of November and switch for the 5950X. I'm not sure about that yet.

If it's still a little cheaper on the 5th, I kinda feel it would be worth the extra power of the 5950X, especially if there's a refund involved.

I think I will leave the order untouched until the end of next week, if it doesn't go into building by then, perhaps I'd set a dispatch after date and wait until the 5th. And perhaps the stock situation won't mirror the 3080 one... In any case, either CPU should do great for what I might use it for for the next, say, 4 years, and then I can upgrade it alongside the GPU.
