Personally, I would wait a month or so and wait for the new GPU's to come out at least, if not the new CPU's which are meant to be shortly after.
Especially with a 2K budget.

It is most likely a TN screen, so the colours will be off. Adjusting colour settings may help a little, but you would want a IPS panel if the colour accuracy and quality are important to you. That does add to the price tag though.

As for Intel/AMD...Intel are a poor choice for pretty much anything but overclocked competitive gaming. So 1080p 240Hz type proper competition gaming. AMD is a no brainer at the moment for 99% of builds.
If youve placed an order with Intel, it will mean cancelling and putting in again to change to AMD as they are on different config setups.

Going by your previous build, £2K budget, you have a 1440p 144Hz monitor and you say you have the keyboard/mouse etc.
So you would be aiming at something like this:

Yes it is a TN screen and i sort of regret buying it as the whites appear washed, and i like your config however i noticed you downgraded the gpu and added storage, i just put together a amd build, i will post it shortly so keep your eyes peeled! I appreciate alll the help from you guys you’ve defo saved me money and added peformance, i will post the amd build now.

and i havent ordered anything yet and probably wont until the 30 series gpus come out, however i dont want to wait too long as 6th form starts in sept.

Unless you are going to buy a ultrawide screen or are looking at VR...neither of which would fit with what youve already said, then a 2070 Super will be more than enough to run any game you want and do your school work on.

Id also refer you back to the point about new GPU's due in a month.
A 2080 (regular/super/ti) is a meaningless expense here.

Ok so ill hold off on the order until the 30 GPUs come through correct? And what if pcs don’t have them on release?

Ok so basicaly wait till the new gpu comes out, how long will I have to wait? Also do you recommend the 3700x or 3800x? I think the 3700x is better value.
3800x is better value, it’s the go to if budget allows over the 3600.

New GPUs are set to be released next month.

PCS are a partner to AMD and NVIdia so will always have new stocks on release.

Firecuda/Samsung Evo 970 - if 500Gb, Samsung is better, if 1TB or 2Tb then the Firecuda M.2
Would suggest a better case...dont get distracted by the RGB, you want a decent case for whats going inside, take the money you are spending on RGB strips and put it towards improving the case.
The cooler, personally i would go with the H100i Plat with a 3800X (or XT) - if you take a corsair one you also dont need to worry about upgrading the paste thats used as they come with their own which is high quality.
AMD come with built in overclocking... no need to add it yourself, its also more detrimental forcing an overclock on AMD CPU's and theres nothing you are doing that would need it.
Braided power supply cables... not sure why youve gone for these, Your budget is slowly creeping up, little extras like that seem to be the main reason why and you really dont need them.

Do you have an old PC that has Win 7/8/10 on? if you are scraping one, you can upgrade to Win 10 still and Win 10 can be transferred over once linked to a microsoft account (saves you £100)

Hi sibun thanks for your help again!

with the firecuda I saw it had 1500 mbps faster read speeds then the evo with only a slight price increase. For the m.2 i only need max 500gb at a stretch since i will transfer the game i play the most onto that drive along with the os for Very fast load times.
Also the case just appealed to me highly visually, do you have abettter alternative. I like the mesh one for like 84 pounds, but would preferably go for this one as it looks nice and has 5 fans built in.
and I will change the cooler based on your suggestion.
You mentioned about built in overclocking, are you inferring I don’t need to spend extra money on a pre overclocked machine? And i know theres nothing I NEED the extra clock speed for but I essentially one a very snappy machine with virtually no lag in terms of hardware. And the braided power cables were really for aesthetics, i was reluctant aswell.
Lastly the reason I haven’t put a OS in there is my family owns a company which has a computer side and they have Plenty of windows keys so i thought no need to spend 100.

I am very grateful for your help, please make the necessary changes using the link. I agree with the price slowly creeping up for no apparent reason.

@sibun1
Better? and can someone explain to me why the evo is better then firecuda despite firecuda having higher speeds, is it due to reliability?
Also this isnt the overclocked edition as I think you said it wasnt worth getting a pre overclocked

I thought the Firecudas were top end M2 drives, but might be wrong but to add the Samsung ones are excellent (I have one and cant fault it). Would it be worth swapping out the 2nd SSD (some people have reported conflicts with running two, but it doesnt make sense as others have whole banks of SSD's) and fit a larger but slower hard drive?

Isn't the Corsair H115i cooler a better choice for this CPU, especially if you intend to push the build?

Liking the look of your build though :)

Grumpywurzel

Bright Spark
@Grumpywurzel The Firecudas are Gen 4 M2 drives...basically the next generation of M2 drives. Best way to explain it is: M2 drive= Blu-Ray; Gen 4 drive= 4k Blu-Ray. Basically just another level (except for the 500GB one which has slower write speeds bizarrely)

The H115i won't fit in the case selected as it only takes rads up to 240mm and the 115i is 280mm.
Cheers mate. Shame about the bigger cooler not fitting..

The smaller drive being slower is a bit crap isnt it!

Faris3789

Active member
@Faris3789 The Firecuda 500GB drive has slower write speeds than the Samsung M2 drives (bizarre but there it is)....nothing wrong with the 500GB Firecuda of course, just don't think spending extra money on a drive which writes slower is prudent. The 1TB Firecuda and above have faster read and write speeds

AMD Overclock: As noted, manually over-clocking an AMD chip may lead to lower performance. My understanding is the built-in auto overclock basically boosts whichever core/s are being utilised (so, if gaming, it will boost a single core for example)...a manual overclock will boost the frequency on all cores but may result in lower clock speeds (so, a manual overclock may take all the cores to, say, 4.3GHz but the auto-clock may take a single core to 4.6GHz) overall
Ok so essentially go with the evo for 500gb m.2 and then I’m fine with the 2tb ssD? Also could you correct my build and make sure the parts do fit in and then send the final product list on here so i can have it finalised and ready to buy? Thank you so much @Nursemorph

Also am i better off not buying a overclocked system and instead normal custom amd pc Using the custom pc section instead of overclocked pc?

Faris3789

Hey nurse so the 2tb ssd is for storage but i don’t want a hdd due to noise but also speeds. Also the reason i put in a 2080 s is because that What I was going to buy and yes I’m waiting for the 30 series to drop and when it does i will buy whatever is price equivalent to the 2080 s. Another thing is i really like the look of the 105 gbp case w the 4 spinning fans I don’t mind paying a little bit more.

And to clear up the storage problem should i put a 500gb evo or a 500gb fire, the fire has quicker read speeds and thats what ill be doing the most; reading games from the m.2.

Also just out of curiosity why did you not pick the thermal paste, is it not necessary? Would it not help the cpu run a lot cooler.

Also im really into aesthetics so do you recommend a nzxt or just normal remote leds (argb ofc)

Also do I wait for zen 3 cups or just go with the 3800xt? Tbh i think ill just stick w the 3800xt

GPU: It's your choice as it's your money. Just seems wasteful spending more than you need to for a month or two and then replacing it.

Hard drive: Entirely your choice if that's what you want to do and you are fine with the cost. Similarly with the Firecuda. As long as you aren't taking money from elsewhere to put them in

thermal paste: The top-lien Corsair coolers come with high-grade paste pre-applied...not sure but it's entirely possible that the MX-4 is not as good depending on what paste Corsair uses.

Aesthetics: I really wouldn't go with the SR-819...for you components, you really want good cooling (especially with the 2080S in there or whatever equivalent) and that case looks to have minimal cooling. Obviously, it's your choice but I wouldn't be surprised if your system got very hot even with the cooler etc and suffer reduced performance (not guaranteed but a risk). Personally, I wouldn't go anywhere near any of the PCS cases

I understand, thing is then i have to send in my own case, when I come to ordering it can i just order it off for example amazon and ship it directly to their address?

Could you give me case recomendations that look really nice like that? Thanks

Faris, just asmall note, none of us work for or get paid for helping out here... you seem to be passing it off and asking for others to do all the changes for you and find things a fair bit...you will have to do some of the leg work yourself.
No problem offering help, but we arent here to do it all for you. You can get your own case and ship it direct to them you just need to let them know.

Have a look at cases, read some reviews, look for one with good cooling potential as your main aim and see what you find.
