Optimus IV BIOS update for Windows 8

These are the instructions on the drive:

Code:
Boot from the pen drive.
type cd 0805 then step1 followed by step2 and then step 3.
reboot and then
type cd 1708 then step1 followed by step2 and then step 3.
Reboot

You're better off asking for the pen drive from PCSpecialist themselves and calling them when you're ready to install it, I'm not saying it will go bad, but you can never be too cautious. :)

I've not found the download anywhere so I have no idea where PCS got it from.

Hi Guys, this is really starting to do my head in! I can't seem to get this damn bios update sorted!

So I finally got the usb drive from PCS, but it didnt fix my problems, which are booting and prompting for password each time. (yes I have disabled option in bios, but it still does it) and it never shuts down properly, it always resumes from hibernation!

So I called PCS tonight and they have emailed me the bios update in case the one they sent was faulty. The instructions are not clear at all. Can someone please help...

So the instructions that are on the instructions.txt file are as follows :

1. Create a bootable USB drive by using the HPUSBFW tool pointing towards the
Copy contents... folder

2. Once complete copy the contents of the boot file folder and the files you already have to the USB drive.

3. Once copied please put both the folders you have on to the USB pen drive.

4. Boot to the USB drive which will take you to a DOS command.

5. Type the first folder name and then tap enter to access the folder and type step1 and enter. The laptop may restart but you will need to type step2 and then step3 once finished.

6. after step3 has completed please enter the name of the second folder and repeat the steps.

Im ok with step1, although it doesnt say if I should choose a particular file format, I assume it doesnt matter, so left it on FAT.

Step 2 and step 3 confuse me. So I understand I have to copy over the two folders, 0805 and 1708, but what is boot file folder?

If anyone can help, I would appreciate it, really losing patience with this whole thing now.

Arsenal: I'd advise you to as I had to ask twice for it, first time it wasn't actually sent.

daz_2000: Dude in the power options is a setting to "turn on fast start-up", you will need to to disable that so you can shut down properly. Alternatively you can just restart as that forces a shut down. I had the same problem, took me a while to catch on to it.

Hi guys.
I've flash my BIOS 2 days ago on my Optimus IV. I couldn't get any sound from the speakers on windows 8.
I've email Pcspecialist and they reply to me with two links.
First one is where you download the BIOS files which contains to folders.
The second link is a tool to get a USB pen as a bootable drive (I couldn't get it to work so use a different software to get my pen as a MS-DOS bootable drive).
I didn't know how to do it so I called them and they send me a mail showing step by step how to do it.
Just follow the steps and it's done :)
Thank you Pcspecialist support team for making it so easy and been so helpful

This is the steps you need to do:

Please could you copy the 2 folders over to the bootable USB pen drive and boot into dos.
Firstly you will need to go into the 0805 folder and the do the following:

Make sure the laptop is plugged in.
Type step1 and then press enter.
Once completed type step2 and enter.
Again when completed type step3 and enter.
The system will shut down automatically.
Power on system and enter CMOS setup to check BIOS version and load system defaults.

Once completed go back into dos and then into folder 1708 and do the same as above.

Kind Regards,
