Optimus X review

Hello everyone,

It has been last Monday since I have received my new laptop. I am very happy with the purchase, with one point of concern so far, which will come at the end of the post! The laptop comes with a 9750H, 16GB (8GBx2) Corsair 2666MHz, Nvidia 1650, 500GB SAMSUNG 970 EVO PLUS M.2 , 1TB Samsung 860 QVO.

I ordered the laptop on the 2nd of June, dispatched on the 14th, received on the 17th of June, so it took couple of weeks.

I must say it is blazing fast. I didn`t have much time to test it as I have been busy this week, but it has not disappointed so far. Very fast in everything from downloading speeds on WiFi, to opening up programs, installing etc. I guess most of the merit goes to the 500GB SAMSUNG 970 which is also backed up by a powerful cpu and good amount of RAM.

I have very quickly tested the laptop with Shogun Total War 2 and I got a very fluid gaming experience. Then I also tried the first Crisis.

Really a powerful machine. The cpu plays its part even if it is also my point of concern as under load (as you would expect) it gets hot (despite the Cooler Master Thermal paste). I have attached a screenshot I have just taken. Under load it reaches 80 to 90 degrees C with a peak I got of slightly over 90 degrees. In idle it is running at around 45 degrees at the moment. I think they just depends from the cpu as the laptop looks like it does its job. Overalli think they should be fine.Any opinions regarding the cpu temperatures?

The gpu looks fine temperatures wise and does its job if you do not have too high expectations.

To sum it up I am very happy with the laptop, and I would definitely recommend it. It does all I need and it does it fast.

Also good experience with PcSpecialist which looks to me a good company which provides with a very good service. Once again very happy with the overall experience.

Thanks for the review, so pleased you’ve got it finally.

Those temps on the CPU are actually very healthy. These intel chips all run very hot. They’re squeezing every last drop out of the 14nm manufacturing process and all they can do is up the cores and the frequencies to the point where they just about run within tolerances.

If you start seeing peaks of 100c (that’s peaks, not sustained) then perhaps start looking for help on repasting or cleaning the laptop, but currently, that looks pretty good.

Thanks a lot for the feedback Spydertracks.

Yeah I think the laptop is excellent. Once again very happy with the purchase. Also nice forum/community. Many thanks.

Hi, my own is coming home by 07/01 and i've got a little question for you:

Did you have options for turning XMP on in Bios?

Better speeds than 2666MHz or tighter timings would be usefull ^^

No, the Optimus doesn’t have any xmp or timing controls. It’s an entry level chassis, you’d have to spend a lot more to get that sort of control.

Ok, thank you, so i think i'll have to opt for HyperX PnP for tigher timings (no JEDEC timing in SPD). French support told me there is XMP but after seeing the manual (when there's not clue about it), i'd rather ask there to you.

Once again thank you, :)

That’s strange that support would have suggested there is, I’ll flag that with the admins.

Hi,

Would you be able to send me an image of the motherboard please, I just want to have a look at the layout and slots or would you know the exact name of the motherboard?

Regards

Laptop motherboards aren't modular like on a desktop, they're part of the chassis, so the chassis is a

dude i get like 63-73 degrees on CPU, same laptop and everything except its a flipping 2060 the cpu shares cooling with, at least when gaming,
When i run folding-at-home it gets to 93 degrees and shuts down without warning repeatedly so I just got it RMA-ed today.
What would you believe is up with the temps?
To clarify its not exactly the same, I have a different m.2 ssd of smaller capacity but i doubt that's too relevant to this
