Path of exile 2 CPU bottleneck?

Just pre ordered Poe 2 early access. Next year will be buying a new pc from pcs when the new rtx 50 cards come out.

At the moment, I'm still using the pc I bought in 2016 from pcs. Still going good!! Over the years I've upgraded the ram and m.2

Z170 pro gaming
I7 6700k
Gtx 1080
32 GB ram.
2TB Evo 970 m.2 ssd
1440p monitor 144mhz.

Just seen the minimum specs for the game. GPU is gtx 960 and above so my gtx 1080 should be ok.
My ram is 32gb so so worries there.

What concerns me is the minimum CPU. It says a i7 7700k. Mine is a i7 6700k.

Will this game be playable for me? If necessary I can turn down the graphical settings I guess?

The minimum settings won't be a good experience, that means lowest graphics settings and even then it will just about manage 60fps at 1080p (min - recommended specs are always based at 1080p), so that GTX960 is for 1080p.

As PoE is an RPG that means a lot of physics based calculations in real time, that's more CPU bound even at higher resolutions.

But then the only real difference between the 6700k and the 7700k is the boost speed, other than that they're exactly the same processor. In theory (depending on how well you've taken care of the system) a basic overclock would get you most of the way to the 7700k boosts anyway.

But again, those min specs are at 1080p, I suspect it will be a bit jerky at 1440p.

I have bought it and very pleased with it on my old system. I was having problems with seeing the fonts on my old 1080p monitor but it now it's sharp and crystal clear!

Could I somehow play poe2 at 1080p on my new 1440p monitor? Just to tide me over till I get my new pc after the rtx 50s come out?

Yeah, absolutely, it won’t be a brilliant experience as 1080 doesn’t go natively into 1440p without factorising, but just to tide you through it will be fine.

Make sure you’ve enabled HDR in windows and nvidia settings otherwise the monitor isn’t being used to its potential. HDR is where it truly shines

HDR already enabled in windows. Will check if it's on in Nvidia settings. When I download and play poe2, do I use the ingame graphic settings to change to 1080p or do I need to do it in windows 10 display?

As it’s not for long and just with that game, you should be able to set the resolution on the game settings
