PC custom build advice please

Hi,

This will be my first custom PC.

My max budget is about £1900 + £300 for a new monitor.

I have an existing monitor AOC G2460PF 144Hz & 1080P, which I plan to use as my secondary screen. I aim to get a new 1440p monitor, are there any recommendations?

I will mainly use the PC to play games currently playing less demanding games such as rocket league & fortnite but hoping to play higher demanding games once I get a new PC (GTA V & Elden ring for example). I would also use the computer for work sometimes when I am working from home so will sometimes run finite element analysis models on software such as Plaxis & Midas (typically the models are not super demanding like in flow/dynamic analysis).

Any advice on improving the configuration is appreciated. Would I need to buy extra fans for the case or at the 2 fans that come with the case enough? Thanks in advance for the help!

I would look at a monitor like the AOC Q27G4X, around £220, IPS, 170Hz and 1440p. A really good value display. You can spend a little more, maybe £280ish, and get something like the MSI MAG274QRF-QD, still about as good as an IPS display gets.

Then I'd look at a PC like this, with a few tweaks to improve the performance and not break the bank:

Case
CORSAIR 5000D AIRFLOW TEMPERED GLASS GAMING CASE
Processor (CPU)
AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D Eight Core CPU (4.2GHz-5.0GHz/104MB w/3D V-CACHE/AM5)

Graphics Card
12GB NVIDIA GEFORCE RTX 4070 SUPER - HDMI, DP, LHR A decent uplift from the 7800 XT

Thanks for the quick response!

Thanks for the monitor suggestion, the £220 looks good for me!
For graphics card, if I am not interested in ray tracing is upgrading the GPU to from 7800XT to Nvidia 4070 Super still worth it? Does 12GB VRAM vs 16GB not matter significantly either?
Thanks for the hard drive, power supply and thermal paste advice, I've taken these changes into account.

No problem.

I'd say the 4070 Super is enough of a step ahead that I'd choose it over the 7800 XT, yes. But both are great cards. 12GB of VRAM is plenty for 1440p still. I think you can argue this one both ways!

By the way, if you're retiring an old Windows 10 PC, you could transfer the licence over, which saves around £100...
