Hi all - so been a few months i know but had a bit of time over xmas to try and sort this. Before i go ahead and get a new drive i found a Youtube video that says to try and format and rebuild the Boot partition on the drive - not sure if this will work but worth a go. Thing is, which of these is the boot partition? (see my attached image)

The video i was going to follow was this one:

On the plus side i was able to get some important files off of the hard drive onto a USB so it won't be the end of the world if i have to get a new drive etc....

The drive is actually a secondary issue

What's more concerning is that you can't boot off usb

When i use the USB i get to the "install windows" screen and select "Repair your computer" - i run the startup repair but it tells me it's not able to fix it......

That's what they mean when they say repair the boot sector, problem is it can't be read which suggests the failed drive.

So i have ordered a new hard drive and found my windows disk that came with the PC - however its Windows 8

Do i have to install from this and then upgrade or can i install W10 straight away and just use my W8 licence key?

You don't need a key as it's tied to the hardware. Just install the latest windows 10 image direct from Microsoft.

So this is the motherboard in the machine

ASUS® Z97-P: ATX, LG1150, USB 3.0, SATA 6GBs

Will any SSD drive work/fit with it?

(I cancelled the order before it dispatched as had a mini panic it would be right)
