PC Shut down on 90% of startups.

Since ive purchased my PC, every time i start it the fans go mental. Then anywhere between 10 - 60 seconds the PC then just shuts down completely.
Ive finally had enough and tried to look in the bios when loading it up, and i notice the CPU temp on there hitting 110 degress and then thats when system shuts down. It eventualy loads up after about 6-7 attempts sometimes more. Ive checked the CPU temp when its finally loaded and it sits no greater than 50 degres.

Any suggestions ? Could it be a fault in bios readings or PSU upgrade needed ?

I'm afraid that system is very poorly configured, there's no way it can support the CPU and GPU.

The cooler is totally inadequate and the case will be creating a furnace.

It's not gonna work I'm afraid.

Sadly… agreed. The case is a known hotbox, ventilation is not a strong point. The motherboard is from the age before Gigabyte started putting some effort in. The cooler is a budget model which is not a good pair with a relatively hot potato like the 5900X. And the PSU is already about at the top end of it’ll be happy with when you factor in a 3070Ti.

I’d personally be considering a system transplant into a new case with a few upgrades if this landed on my desk. How long have you had it?

Since start of the year. So we looking at a new cooler and PSU ? Along with new case maybe ?

PSU and Cooler upgrade ? This was all done via PC Specialist config. I actually went higher than their recommended CPU aswell lol

You'd need around £600 to get it ship worthy, but it would be an entire system rebuild from scratch.

You'd need a decent case, minimum of £100 more around £150

You'd need a decent 1000w PSU

You'd need a X570 Strix motherboard as a minimum.

You'd need an H115i Capellix cooler as a minimum

You'd also have to replace the wifi card as it won't work in windows 11 as has no driver support. An AX200 card would be suitable.

But you'd need to know how to build a PC from scratch, this is a full tear down job.

However even though it will get hot and various things could've been changed before ordering in the first place - it should just throttle, it shouldn't be overheating on bootup - it would suggest something is actually wrong rather than just different cooling solutions - even though different cooling solutions are really needed

I have windows 11 now and that wifi card works....? Although i dont use it anyway and was free with the spec.

Agree with this completely. Whilst the configuration is completely unsuitable you should still be booting into windows.

First question has this ever worked?

My first port of call would be to check the frostflow cooler is all connected properly?

Sounds like sometimes the cooler is active, sometimes it isn't. It's most likely the pump that's causing the issues due to the timing of the problems. The 50C temp sounds about right with that config, it's going to run seriously hot. The fans going crazy would be indicative of the pump as well, as if it were the fans then they wouldn't spool.

Agree with the system spec, it's been poorly configured and advice should have been sought before purchasing such high end equipment. The configurator will let you choose compatible components, but it won't sanity check how ideal they are. The configurator assumes you know what you want and why, rather than only allowing you to cherry pick.

For the simplest solution I would get in touch with PCS and ask them to check over the system. You can arrange an RMA to have the pump checked/replaced. If it is indeed the cooler, I would strongly advise asking them to upgrade to a more suitable unit.

Today i opened the pc and made sure the cooler was full flush and tightened the screws as there was small play. Turned on and it worked fine. I am going to upgrade the PSU and the Cooler regardless, and looking at new cases. Thanks for the advice everyone :)

Since it is still fairly new, if you change the case please note this part of the terms and conditions (https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/terms/)

In light of RakksPost, you may want to consider going in to your account on PCS and looking at this order and then clicking the upgrade button to see what options you get. (Hopefully it gives choices re case etc - but I’ve not ordered desktop before so don’t know)

For a small labour fee then you could send it back in get PCS to do the upgrades and therefore maintain any warranty remaining.

Alternatively if you are still getting issues with it shutting down you could RMA it under warranty to get PCS to look at it in case there is a problem (in addition to then asking them to do an upgrade).

It might be worth a phone call to discuss options with them.
