My pc turned off while I was in the middle of playing a game and wont turn back on - peripherals all have power but nothing happens when I press the power button
Was told it might be a power supply issue? I dont know what to do Ive only had the pc a month

Ok, first thing I'd do, it's take the sides off the case and check all the connections are firmly plugged, also check the GPU and RAM are properly seated

If the motherboard lights are all on and peripherals are powered, then it would suggest motherboard is getting power.

If it won't power on it suggests a cut off of power to the CPU, or simply that the case power switch has somehow become loose on the motherboard.

Just out of interest, how do you normally shut down the PC?

You can't really tell from overall photos if connectors are slightly loose.

I used to, every now and again, on old system have the power on button just sotp working (press it and nothing happens)....when that happened I used to turn off the system from the switch on the back of the power supply unit and then unplug it. After a couple fo hours, I'd plug it back on, flick that switch back to on and the button would then be working. May not solve it but worth a try.

The peripherals had power but I didnt notice any lights on the motherboard itself being on - the pc wasn't doing anything at all, I thought the electric had gone out until I noticed the peripherals still had power and the wifi was still on on my phone

When turning it off I normally click the shut down button on the monitor and then I press the power button on the pc itself but I do admit I often just get up to do something else and come back to a sleeping monitor

That's what I wondered, that's not how you shut down a pc and will have likely borked your windows install due to it not shutting down correctly.

When you power it on, are there any beeps? If there are lights on your peripherals there must be lights on the board, we need to be clear on that? If there are no lights on the board, then I wouldn't bother trying to investigate and just RMA the system.

When I turn it on theres a light on the top right of the board and a small beep, nothing now of course
Sorry not following, there is a light or isn’t? If there’s a beep that’s a successful post beep which suggest it is booting but no display which is an entirely different issue

When I turn it on normally there's a light and a beep - now there's nothing, just the sound of pressing the on button
ok, when you get the beep, that’s a post beep which means it’s passed the hardware checks required to proceed to windows booting.

Are you saying at that point it shuts down and power goes off? Obviously if you press the on button when it’s on it will shut it down, so don’t repress the power button once it’s posted

It had a light and a beep before it randomly shut off. Ever since it shut off, nothing happens when I press the power button

Oh, sorry, so there is no activity at all now when you press the power button.

In that case I'd just RMA it, if there's no lights on the board it does suggest a PSU issue to the 24pin board delivery.

But in future, please don't shut it down with the power button, you need to use the shutdown from the windows menu. It goes through a whole process to stop services and processes before shutting down, if you bypass that and just press the hardware button, you're going to corrupt your windows installation fairly quickly.

RMA means sending the pc back in for a replacement part, right? And it would be covered under warranty? Sorry if those are dumb questions im a bit frazzled

Yes, “return Merchandise authorisation”. It raises a request to PCS with the details of the issue, they’ll then either approve it there and then or call you to see if they can sort it remotely, once they authorise the RMA then they’ll arrange a courier to collect it.

It’s all covered by your warranty, including shipping. As you took out silver warranty, shipping costs are covered for a year. The courier will arrive and collect the PC, all the details for packaging and labelling are shown when you create the RMA

Most factory failures will happen within the first year due to defective parts, so the fact this has happened early is actually a good thing. It’s impossible for manufacturers to be 1000% certain any product is perfect when it’s released to the market, they have a tight deadline to do a certain set of stress tests but often this won’t uncover a particular faulty capacitor or something that only shows signs under weeks of constant use.

PCS have your back though, they’ll see you right

Okay, I'm requesting an RMA now - is this written correctly? I've never done this before

[On 18/10/2024 at around 21:00 the computer suddenly turned off completely and no longer turns on. There is no activity when pressing the power button but peripherals receive power. The pc has not been moved since being set up, has not received any form of damage, and is plugged into an extender lead with surge protection.]

Not something I can comment on, if that's what you're meaning to say then it's correct?

Can I just ask: Where exactly is the light? I ask because there are 4 small LED lights in the top right hand corner of the motherboard (to the right of the RAM sticks) and these can indicate a hardware fault. In order, from top to bottom, the 4 LEDs are:

Boot (may indicate a drive issue or a Windows failure of some kind)
VGA (may indicate a graphics card issue)
CPU (self explanatory)
RAM (self explanatory)
