PCIe connector cables w/850w + 3080

Hey folks,

So I've got my PCIe cable with the the 2x 6+2 on the end, and both are plugged in to my graphics card. Easy money. My 1070 runs fine like that, but as I've got a 3080 coming and I'm tired I need to ask the stupid question.

For the purposes of cable management, can you put ONE of the 6+2 into the PSU and leave the other just free, and have the full 8-pin go into the 8 pin on the card? The idea would be two have two separate 6+2s plugged into the PSU and have the two 8 pin ends plugged in to the graphics card to make it a lot tidier.

I'm aware of the current advice that is to have a separate PCIE cable for each 8 pin slot, but the spare 6+2 floating around looks crap and it would be better if I could hide it under the PSU shroud.

Again, idiot question if there's something obvious I'm missing.

I wouldn't put it the other way round myself, I expect the connectors are not interchangeable, ie I think the PSU end won't fit in the GPU (could be wrong).

The spare ends can be tightly bound back to the rest of the cable which should look neater though?

Just to be aware that the 3080 is a 12 pin connector so you will need to attach the included adapter to the 8 pins....apparently it's design is somewhat rubbish, being quite chunky
I think it may only be the founders that currently has the 12-pin (Zotac 3080's for example don't)

Would have thought they'd all use the same connector as the original one....me assuming things again! Have removed my post to avoid confusion
I'm sure some board partners will, but afaik none have just yet (I'm not checking out EVERY 3080 to confirm hehe :))
