We can only hope that with the 2 week push back on the 3070 that the shortage is not as severe as the 3080, but thats wishful thinking i think.

Slightly frustrating that nothing happens until ALL parts become available, because what if I am able to get my hands on a 3070, but my case is out of stock. Say for example I log in on the 29th Oct, pay for a 3070, and then my order sits in pre-production for a further 3 days whilst awaiting a restock on the case, - in those 3 days, say the 3070 then goes out of stock, does that mean i then need wait AGAIN for weeks and weeks until the 3070 becomes available again. That seems utterly bizarre? Or am i misunderstanding it, i would of assumed that all the parts i chose at time of payment would of already been allocated to my order, as when i payed for them, they were in stock,
Everything is prepared for production and then waits for the missing part, so in your scenario your 3070 would be gathered together with the rest of your build and sit in pre production waiting for the missing part

I don't know whether that's the case, I don't think anyone who doesn't work for PCS actually does know for certain.

It would make some sense, if you have three builds all waiting on different parts, to shift parts from one of them to alllow the other two builds to go out. Then you have two happy customers and only one waiting.

I was just basing that on my recent laptop order, which I was told was sat in pre production waiting for the chassis to come back in stock

You would need to call to have certainty as we don't have inside information in that regard. What we do have is experience with queries over the years that lead us to an understanding of the process......... as we understand it, ironically. This could be accurate or inaccurate depending on if any changes have been made.

So..... as I understand it.....

When your order is placed the items are virtually allocated to your order based on current stock vs current demand vs stock orders. You are then placed in a build queue. When it comes to your turn to build (or there abouts) a stock check is done. If the parts are all in stock they are allocated to your order and sent to build, if something is out of stock then you are notified of the delay.

The plan is that all stock for your build will be available on your proposed build date, the proposed date is based on the lead time of any parts that aren't in stock along with the expected availability of the parts on order.

When something goes out of stock and isn't going to be fulfilled by an incoming order, it is marked out of stock on the website until the order is received.

With this in mind, you could build an entire system with everything in stock on that day, but when it gets to your build day something is out of stock. This is never the plan, the plan is that everything is ordered and due in for your build to commence..... that's just the unfortunate way of the world at the moment.

Covid caused havoc as all lead times that expected build dates were planned on went to pot so everything was a bit of an unknown. Add to that the staffing etc and it was just a nightmare scenario. New GPUs always bring about a similar situation only for different reasons.
