Plain question- Is this good...?

Hi guys, first time buying a PC! Done a lot of research for months and my family revolves around the IT industry but not too much gaming-wise... I have always been a Playstation Gamer myself. I have put this together for my first PC, wondering if anyone can advise any pros and cons with this? List here-

Please don't buy this computer without looking for further advice, it is not a balanced build and is likely to be thermally throttled by the case / cooler with that GPU.

What programs (and any games) will you be using it for?
What is your budget?
What monitor will you be using?

Thanks ThoRob, that's exactly the answers I am looking for!
I want it for pretty heavy, high-end gaming for games such as Warzone (and other CoD's), Minecraft, Bloodhunt, and most racing games such as iRacing and Asetto Corsa. Maybe some demanding creative apps such as the Adobe Suite, but mainly gaming.
I'm pretty stuck on the Ryzen 5 and the RTX 3080 though, seeing Ryzen 5 information online suits my needs and the RTX 3080 is just the one I want, doesn't seem to cause issues with other people playing the same games I do, and the same apps I use, but the lower GPU's do. Monitor, I have a 4k Philips gaming monitor- 144hz. Can't get the name of it right now, but will do it when I can.

I actually made this one too, forgot about this one completely. The original post was a custom one I made, this one below is a premade one but with a few changes made such as CPU, cooling, and SSD, but it's literally the same except for the case, I'm so confused why it's telling me everything compatible? Thanks :)

It's technically compatible in that it'll all fit, but on the other hand it's not really got enough in certain areas to get full performance. In particular, the case could be restrictive as it's very restrictive of airflow which reduces cooling. The 3080 is very demanding on cooling.

Perhaps you could confirm exactly what display you are using? Is it the 279M1RV, perhaps?

Here's what I would suggest as value-for-money for that display:

Case
FRACTAL MESHIFY 2 LIGHT TEMPERED GLASS Big case, but loads of cooling potential
Processor (CPU)

AMD Ryzen 5 5600 Six Core CPU (3.5GHz-4.4GHz/35MB CACHE/AM4) You could up this to say the 5700X, but at 4K it probably won't make a huge difference
Motherboard

ASUS® TUF GAMING B550-PLUS (DDR4, USB 3.2, 6Gb/s) - ARGB Ready! Excellent motherboard, already has a 2.5Gb ethernet port
Memory (RAM)

1TB INTEL® 670p M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD (up to 3500MB/sR | 2500MB/sW) A second drive (still several times faster than the 870) for game installation
Power Supply

CORSAIR 1000W RMx SERIES™ MODULAR 80 PLUS GOLD, ULTRA QUIET The 3080 is demanding: this gives plenty of power supply for this system and any upgrades
Power Cable

Hi! Thanks for the time you have taken to show me this :) My monitor is a 278M1 :)
Regarding the cooling, is that enough to cool the PC? I'm happy to get a better cooling system, I thought the liquid-cooled option I had was alright?
The SSD, I don't see a Hard Drive or SSD in the spec- do I only need the M.2 SSD's then?
Thanks :)

No problem at all.

The 5600 is actually a really easy chip to cool. It will only output 110W of power even under an all-core load at maximum boost clocks, which is very unlikely in gaming, so a decent air cooler like the FrostFlow 150 is fine for it. If you wanted to go better, you could get a good water cooler. However, the Frost Flow 120 you selected is probably worse than the air cooler: a 120mm radiator is pretty small and you're adding many more points of failure to your system (the AIO pump is the most common especially in cheap liquid coolers). It'd probably be OK, but I would prefer the air cooler at this price. You can spend more on a good water cooler like the Corsair H100i, but that's a lot of extra money for probably negligible improvement in performance.

A CPU upgrade (say to the 5700X) wouldn't be stupid, but again you wouldn't see massive improvements.

An M.2 SSD is an SSD. They are exactly the same chips (or better) than a "conventional" (i.e. 2.5") SSD, but with a better, much faster interface. 2.5" SSDs have little place in a modern system.

Finally, that display. It's actually a 60Hz display. That's relatively low for modern gaming. Most gamers want displays in the 120-144Hz range; at 4K these cost somewhere from £650. Ultimately, the bottleneck in this system will be that display. That's not a problem in terms of compatibility, but you won't necessarily get the full potential out of this PC with that display.

Very confused about why everything is "suitable" and matches... Imagine I would have brought this without posting this on the forum... Again, think you for your help...!
What water cooler do you recommend for the CPU, GPU and Motherboard I have chosen?
Also, the motherboard you have mentioned already has a 2.5GB port, does this mean I DON'T have to get the optional extra Network Card?
And sure, I won't add a Hard Drive or an SSD then, just two M.2 SSD's?

Thanks again, really appreciate you being patient with me as I learn! :)

The water cooler will only cool the CPU: the motherboard and GPU (which is actually the biggest heat producer in the system) would still be air cooled unless you go for a full liquid-cooled build, which is way more money. For the 5600 or 5700X, I'd suggest the H100i would be ample. The case I've suggested, the Meshify 2, would happily have a much bigger cooler, like the H115i or the H150i, but I doubt they would be significantly better.

(continuing my post as I'm having forum issues!)

Then you have three choices as to the particular model:
  • The RGB Pro model (RGB lights on the CPU plate, normal fans)
  • The Capellix RGB model (better RGB lights on the CPU plate, RGB fans)
  • The Capellix RGB LCD model (LCD display on the CPU plate, RGB fans)
This is almost entirely an aesthetic choice. There's very little between them in terms of cooling efficacy.

You're correct: the Tuf B550 board has 2.5Gb Ethernet built in, so you don't have to get the network card: it would be wholly redundant.

Adding a hard drive wouldn't be stupid as you've mentioned Adobe apps. A 2TB HDD is about £50 and would more than double your total storage capacity. That would be a nice addition if you're going to be dealing with big files, e.g. video or photo editing. But for goodness' sake don't put games on it!

And I'm more than happy to help: this is my idea of a fun Saturday evening!

Thanks for the reply! So being me (aka fussy... haha) I have made up another spec, hoping I was able to understand what you have said, please tell me if I did understand and I made some better corrections to the spec. Everything except the hard drive I have added here, does this sound good? (below)
Regarding the case, is there anything I am specifically looking out for? I chose a different case because I preferred the design, same company though.

I would strongly advise considering the GPU. As already suggested, with that monitor, the GPU isn't going to get the sort of use that you would be aiming for.

There are other considerations that I would make. I think you would be better placed to get the 5800X3D for your uses (specifically the simulation gaming). The 5800X3D paired with something like the 3070 would perform better than the 5600 with the 3080 in this type of use.

It's unfortunate that the X570 isn't available just now as I would prefer that over the B550 for the 5800X3D. May be worthwhile holding off a little to see if it comes back in. I would also consider 32GB of RAM, this may be an overspend but I think it's worth considering for Simming & maybe even warzone.

Just something to consider :)
