My requirements: Don't do a lot of massive graphics intensive stuff - mainly grand strategy paradox games or football manager or the like. Flight Simulator is about as graphics intensive as I get. Nevertheless want a reasonably high end machine that can handle all of those with a bit to spare, double as a work machine when needed, and last 3-4 years.

This is what I came up with:

Hello,

After starting optimizing your spec', i just reallized that you did not gave us your max budget.
And will you use your laptop plugged or not, will you use it with an external monitor ?
Will you use the internal speaker or not ?

Hum ... i think it's the first question you have to answer before we can go into the deeper part of optimization ^^

So budget up to €2,500, though preferably closer to 2k.

I almost always use it plugged in, with its own monitor, and yes, I use the internal speaker.

A desktop would probably be better, I know, but I travel a good bit for work so I like to have something mobile for downtime in hotel rooms, etc.

Hi,
So, with that in mind, i propose you 2 more optimized spec with amd cpu (they are more optimized than the 11th intel gen) within the 2500 range (i think it's better to invest a little bit more but to have good parts as, in laptop, it more complicated to change "things" ^^)
I took the liberty to remove the antivirus as windows defender do a great job (almost as good as the other, for free ^^)
I have upgraded the ssd, but we can downgrad it if you want to save some bucks
I add the dead pixel warranty and upgraded the silver warranty to the gold one (better for the peace of mind with laptop)
And finally, i chose win10 as win11 is not fully operationnal yet (there is some bugs that need to be ironed ^^)
Oh, and you have to be aware that internal laptop speaker are bad, so you may want to use headphone ^^
About the cooling pad, you may want to take a look on A****n or other website as they will have better choice ^^

The final choice is up to you, but, as a better cooling system allow less heat, and so, a better longevity, i suggest you to go for the valeon, even if it's not as gorgeous as the ionico ^^
