Hello everybody, I'd apprecite some feedback and tweaking as I have gone a bit over budget here.

Budget:
£3000 - the monitor has to be a part of this

Use:
Gaming, currently playing World of Warcraft and Diablo IV

Monitor:
I actually used a post made by Scott (Desktop Building Guide - April 2023) to come up with this setup and for the budget I should expect a 1440p High End sort of gaming experience (maybe more?), so I'd appreciate a 1440p monitor (at least) and have added a monitor offered by PCSpecialist - but if there is something more adequate, I'd appreciate the feedback

Can't believe you mentioned my guide and then went with a 750w PSU 🫣 Did you skip that section? :p

The monitor you have selected is 4k. The 4070Ti should do a fine job with it if you want to go down that road but depending on your gaming style I think you could do better with an ultrawide monitor.

For the monitor I would get some separate suggestions with the £500 budget leftover. Specify exactly what sort of aspect, look and performance you want.

Example samsung offering:

Thank you for getting back to me Scott

Apologies! I might have overlooked that part of the guide 😅

Just a few questions:

The case, as far as I'm aware only comes with two fans (5x fans if it comes with the 3x motherboard fans) 1x rear and 1x front fan. Do I not need to purchase additional fans for the remaining slots of the case or does the "CORSAIR iCUE H115i ELITE CAPELLIX XT RGB High Performance CPU Cooler" render this a wasted spend?

The idea of having 2x M.2 SSD Drives is to allow the operating system to be installed on one and games on the other. I question my intelligence on a regular basis and am wondering if installing additional games and programes on the second SSD drive quite straight forward?

I am assuming the "32GB Corsair VENGEANCE RGB DDR5 5600MHz (2 x 16GB)" is exactly the same as the "32GB Corsair VENGEANCE DDR5 5600MHz (2 x 16GB)" but without the lighting strip.

By "gaming style" with reference to monitors, ultrawides help with immersion I believe, so yes, I think that would lend itself well to what I am playing now, thank you for the link, that monitor looks amazing!

Many thanks,

Fishes

With the case, I wouldn't bother with additional fans. The AIO does indeed aid with the airflow so it should push the air out nicely through the top. The other 2 fans would be used as intake. If you wanted a bit more airflow then I would probably just opt for a different case. I wouldn't get too caught up in it though as it's all perfectly suitable for your build. If you're looking for the stealth look and want to cover all bases then I would probably go for the Meshify 2 case. It's a great bit of kit, offers another fan and is an excellent build quality. There's nothing wrong with the 5000D though, it's purely my preference to the aesthetic and getting the extra fan. If you want something pretty then the 5000X is the obvious answer, it's stunning.... .but lit up, if this isn't your thing.

Yes, this is the reasoning for the 2 drives. Installing on a secondary drive is a doddle. When installing a game you simply point it to that location. I have my own folder structure in the game drive. If you wanted to copy this methodology then it may help. I have a folder created called "Steam Games", then "GoG Games", etc. This way, it means that I know which games I have installed from which easily and if I've wiped the primary, during install I know exactly where to point the various programs. In short though, it's very easy.. yes. Once you start doing it, it's second nature.

Yes, that's the only difference. I only selected it as the price was minimal and it can be turned off if you wish. Just in case you changed your mind. If you are certain you want no bling then there's no issue opting for the non-RGB offering.

With regards to the monitor, there may be better offerings on the market within budget so I would maybe start a thread with your requirements in the "Monitors" section. There are a few members on here that are far more knowledgeable than me in this regard so I would always get their insight as they tend to be far more on the pulse than I am.

To be fair to the OP, the guide says the following:

Which PSU:

PSUs aren't created equally. There are different levels of PSU for different tiers of usage as well as different power levels. Corsair are a fantastic brand of PSU so rest assured, if you choose a Corsair PSU.... it's a great bit of kit. I would always try to fit a 650w PSU as a minimum to any desktop system now. With the new GPUs in mind, along with their power requirements, I would actually recommend 750w now as a base where the budget allows, 850w if you want to ensure you are covered for all current options. There's not a lot of difference in price when bumping up the wattage, but there is when you bump up the model. Anything over a 3060(Ti) I would normally recommend a 750W RM(x).

Might be time to update the guide Scott! :ROFLMAO:

I sense a ban coming 😬 :ROFLMAO:

To be fair, it's probably still accurate (the only reason I default to 850w is the price difference is next to nil). But the 4070Ti is a fair bit more beefy than a 3060ti :D

But yes, I think some revisiting is required :D

I made some tweaks, I'd appreciate some feedback

The way my furniture is setup, I will basically be unable to benefit from seeing any of the inside, so would prefer a more "stealthy" approach to the case design.

I've upgraded the cooling systm as I was considering the Fractal Define 7 case and was aware of the poor airflow following this youtube video:

The video mentions that the Fractal Define 7 case comes with a more ventilated top cover, which I am assuming would be a must for the cooling I have chosen, would PCSpecialist use the ventilated option here?

I've chosen the Gigabyte M34WQ as reccommended by SpyderTracks for my monitor

Removed the cable as SpyderTracks pointed out that the monitor should have one included in the box, please see the above post for a tweaked build

Thanks

No reason to swap from the 5000D in my opinion...if you don't like (or won't be taking advantage of) RGB lighting, the you can configure the RGB to 'stealth' mode (i.e. off).

I'm also not sure that you'll get any benefit of the new H150i iCUE LINK version, as you don't have any other iCUE LINK items in the build...you may as well go for the normal H150i XT Capellix.

You've selected the Meshify rather than the Define. The meshify is what I would go for in your shoes as it's a great case. The Define 7 is fantastic and has it's own merits but it's not really aimed at this sort of use, more when silence is the key. It does a fine job but it needs the airflow appropriately managed and balanced with the acoustics. If you're looking for a quiet PC then it may be worthwhile but would need to be considered.

With the meshify, I would simply opt for the H115i. It's the best compromise across the board and the lights can be switched off so no real down side.

Minor change as below. £40 better in your pocket IMO. You could lower right down to the H100i without any real down side. But the H115i does offer the best performance/noise ratio.

Thank you guys so much for your input.

I do love RBG setups and hope to build my own gaming machine one day where it can be appreciated (and a budget that would do it justice!) but right now this tower's home is on a shelf by my legs in my bedroom.

I'm going to go with the Fractal Meshify 2 case as Scott mentioned, it does look cool with the minimal/absent RBG.

The Meshify 2 is an incredible case, not just for airflow, but for building or upgrading in, it's an absolute joy, so easy because of the space. One of my cases of the last 5 years I'd say from a builders perspective.
