Problems with new graphics card

I had a digital license for Windows 10 Pro on my old PC but couldn't upgrade to 11 Pro because it didn't meet the specs. When this new machine arrived with 11 on it I couldn't activate it as I didn't have a license. So I went through those steps above to use a USB drive to install Windows 10 Pro on this new machine so I could sign in with my digital license an upgrade it to Windows 11 Pro. So now that I am in possession of a Windows 11 Pro license, what do I do from here?

And I don't know why it's so hard to get an answer from you, but can you *please* tell me what you mean by a clean install?
I don’t think we can help, you’ve literally been given step by step instructions in answer to both a clean install and transferring the license

I just found the email from Microsoft support, these are the steps I followed to install Windows 10 Pro -

Please see the step below.

1. Go to this link https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

2. Click "Download Now" under Create Windows 10 installation media

3. Run the downloaded file (Media Creation Tool) and click "Yes" once prompted "Do you want to allow this app to make changes to your device?"

4. Accept the License Term and Agreement

5. Select Create Installation Media for another PC > Click Next > Select ISO to save inside the PC or select USB if you want to save it in a USB > Click Next

6. Once it reached 100% > click Next > Complete

7. Once the download is complete, right-click the downloaded file (Windows 10 ISO) and select "Open with Windows Explorer"

8. Click the "Sources" folder

9. Double-click the Setup inside the "Sources" folder

10. Select "I don't have a product key" > Click Next

11. Select the correct Windows 10 version > Click Next

12. Accept the License Term and Agreement

13. Select "Custom: Install Windows only (advanced)"

14. Select the primary partition where Windows is currently installed > Click Next

15. Make sure that the box about Windows.old is prompted > Click OK

16. Wait for the process to complete

Ok, very simple, when you ran the windows USB, were you in windows when you inserted the USB and ran through the update from there?

If not, what process did you take to run the USB?
Not entirely sure, but I'm pretty sure I was in Windows as I would have followed the instructions in my post above.

So as already said, you haven’t clean installed, you’ve done a windows reset.

You need to follow the step by step instructions.

Until windows and drivers are properly setup, the system isn’t going to be stable.

Microsoft expect people to know how to boot a USB, it’s basic windows management, they don’t train people without charging lots of money.

So you're saying that the step by step instructions that I got from Microsoft support are wrong? And that upgrading from Windows 10 to 11 compromises the system to a point where you need to do a clean install of it? Sorry, but you are being very rude and unhelpful.

That's not to install windows, it's just an upgrade. It's impossible to clean install from within windows as the partitions are in active use.

I'll bow out, I think you're on the wrong forum if you can't listen to advice.

Thank you very much, that was very helpful. And maybe I'm not making myself clear as I'm flustered and an amateur, but that's what I tried to explain to Spyder above, that is the process I went through for installing. I just had to install 10 first because that's what I had a licence for. So based on my understanding of this thread, if you ever upgrade an operating system you need to do a clean install of it afterwards because upgrading an OS breaks it?
I genuinely don't understand some people

After clear step by step instructions by @Martinr36 you said that was the process you followed, but later when you copied the directions from Microsoft, it clearly wasn't

You've said yourself "I'm flustered and an amateur" yet are calling people who understand and are giving clear guidelines "unhelpful" and "rude"

You're claiming that we're saying that what Microsoft has said is incorrect, when it's the fact that Microsoft haven't given you instructions on how to clean install, only on how to upgrade to windows 10 pro.

I just contacted PCSpecialist support and they uninstalled the graphics card drivers and reinstalled them so I'm off to test my machine after speaking to someone who was actually helpful and polite and knowledgable. They are 99% certain it is a GPU problem and has absolutely nothing to do with how Windows was installed, so I'll go with their advice, thanks. Absolutely nothing about what you said was clear, that's why I had to keep asking. But now that I've talked to a nice, helpful person, we have no more reason to interact. Yay!

Also, no, Microsoft didn't give me instructions on how to upgrade to Windows 10 Pro, I already had a license for that, they were showing me how to install Windows 10 Pro on this new machine that had Windows 11 on it. You really haven't listened to a thing I've said, I'm glad I'm done here.

Feel free to delete this monstrosity of a thread.

Quick update, I had a faulty GPU, it was replaced, everything is now working fine, it had nothing whatsoever to do with the OS or how it was or wasn't installed, just in case anyone else gets bad advice.

It really helps if people actually read the stickies when they're joining the forum as they agree to.

To begin troubleshooting, you have to be on a clean OS. You weren’t, so we couldn’t start troubleshooting as there would be too many unknown variables that could affect results.

We're not PCS, we don't have the luxury of doing a remote session, or having your PC in front of us, we have to talk you through step by step.

It wasn’t bad advice in any way and I don’t appreciate your snarkiness. You won’t get any further help from me going forwards

The issue here was that you don't have the basic IT skills to do even standard OS management, and you'll struggle with a custom PC going forwards.

If I had my way I would ban you. Always read the newcomers section and forum rules when joining any forum or discord channel, otherwise you’ll just annoy people. This is all highlighted in the stickies.

Nope, you were rude, condescending and unhelpful from the start (you could have posted those links to articles when I first asked you about them, not after the fifth time of asking), as I say, I did install the OS correctly (not my first custom order from this company). You just don't know what you're talking about and are very rude in saying it and you're still being unpleasant and sneery. Feel free to ban me, this isn't the place to come to get help. Bye.

Well, since you’re still stating you’ve done everything correctly when we’ve repetitively tried to advise you you haven’t, there is no help you can receive on this forum, it’s pointless.
