Quick questions, CPU coolers.

Just a few questions about CPU coolers for my friend who will be ordering soon, how good is the PCS FrostFlow 80 compared to the 3600 stock cooler? And if you order a 3700x with a stock cooler do you get the Wraith Prism? Thanks everyone.

I thought the wrath prism coolers were the 3600/x/xt?

I believe anything 3700 or above is also better off with a custom cooler choice.

In all honesty... i don’t know and i wouldn’t want to find out. The better the cooler, the cooler the chip. The cooler the chip... the less power the cooler needs from the fans - meaning less noise.

I believe those are the Wraith Spires, I don't know if PCS give you the stock cooler that comes with your specific CPU. So a Wraith Stealth for 3100 and Wraith Prism for 3700x etc.

Just don't know if it's worth getting or sticking with the stock cooler for a 3600.

Yes, stock cooler means the one that's supplied with that particular model of CPU.

With a good airflow PC case AMD stock coolers are good enough if now heavy all-day-long tasks done with a CPU. If I were you, I wouldn't look at PCS FrostFlow coolers. Currently from air coolers what's in stock Coolermaster is best (otherwise Noctua would be) or for liquid cooling Corsair.

Just another personal expereince here from me - everyones setup is different so it's impossible to fully compare one to another. However, I have the Frostflow 100 with the 5600X - I work the CPU moderately hard with Lightroom and Photoshop but never for more than a few minutes at a time. 1080P gaming can keep it stressed for longer though.

I have read many a post on the Interweb of people complaining of hight temps with this CPU, but mine idles near 30 degrees and has never been above 69 degrees under load since day 1.

My case fans all run at low speed and with my fan profile the CPU fan is the only one I allow get to 1,000 RPM when it's working hard. Having said that I do have enough case fans to see the unit likely get airborne if I ran them at full tilt! :)

The Frostflow 80 has three heatpipes where the 100 has four. For the small price difference I would rather 33% more heat pipes personally, but really if cooling is a real concern there is no doubt you can do better than both of them....
