I installed my existing RTX 3080, Win11 Pro licence, and a couple of 1Tb NVME drives (Sabrent Rocket & Samsung 980 Evo Pro). Learnt the hard way that populating the M.2 #2 and #3 slots disables the first PCIEx16 slot, which put a bit of a panic in me, thinking my 3080 had died on me 😂
It's now in slot #2 and working grand ;)

So I got this new build out on Tuesday, and since then I've had some issues with it. First time I've had issues with a PCS build, as this is my third build from them now and the first I've ever had any issues with.

Primary issue root cause turned out to be the ram in this machine. It's only 5200MT/s DDR5 (I went lower for stability - lol), but I've had a LOT of trouble trying to get it to run at anything other than motherboard defaults of 3600, either by manually tweaking the speeds & voltages* or using the DOCP profiles.

Even at 3600, this machine absolutely FLIES. Loving the 9800x3D, as it's the first x3D chip I've ever used. I mainly play WoW, so this is a huge bump up from my previous 5800x.

I know AMD Motherboards are notorious for having issues with 4 sticks in simultaneously, and later today I'll be testing with 2 sticks out of the machine to see if that works at faster speeds, but any tips or pointers in getting all 4 sticks to run?

I'd really prefer to have the full 64Gb running at full speed. Given that it was QC'd and passed it should work...

*Manual settings tried:
Memory Frequency: 4800 (to try and get it running faster without maxing it out)
FCLK Freq: 2400
Tcl: 40
Trcd: 40
Trp: 40
Tras: 77 (these are all the stated defaults for the ram at 5200)
CPU SOC / VDDSOC Voltage: 1.1 (tried 1.2 as well)
DRAM VDD Voltage: 1.25
Tried PBO off and on.

Motherboard defaults should be 4800MHz, not 3600MHz, if it's 3600MHz that's DDR4 speeds

But yes, 4 sticks is never advised, you'd always configure 2 x 32Gb for 64Gb.

Just to confirm, are you using the default memory training rather than manual? What process are you doing to configure the RAM? What BIOS settings?

You will probably not succeed in getting all four sticks to run at the rated speed. The memory controller just won't be able to handle it.

I would have strongly urged you to get a 2x32GB RAM kit, and indeed that's probably your best option now if you want to get it working at those speeds. The advantage of that is that you can also get a higher quality/lower latency RAM kit. The downside is that it'll cost you £160 or more.

Depending on the number of ranks on the memory, JEDEC standard speeds for four sticks can indeed be 3600MHz.
Edit: Here's the spec from the AMD website:

Yeah had an inkling I'd end up going for 2 x 32Gb sticks in the end. I'll probably look at purchasing a couple of 6000 sticks and just run with those.

And yeah, the motherboard definitely defaults to 3600 with the 4 sticks in. I'll test it now actually with 2 sticks out and do a CMOS reset to see what it defaults to, then try it with the DOCP profile.

Thanks for the advice so far, I'll be back soon with a 2-stick update :)

Popped 2 x sticks out, CMOS reset and the mobo defaults to 4800.

Trying the DOCP 1 profile first to see if it'll run at 5200.

Yeah 2 sticks runs fine so far at 5200 using the first DOCP profile.

Guess I'll order up 2 x 32Gb 6000 sticks then 😂

Cheers folks 😄👍

Make sure you get some quality CL30 ones -- would be a pity at this point not to go for the optimum.

Yep, I'll be sourcing the best I can get. Hopefully some RGB ones, as I miss the RGB ram from my old setup 😂

You need to check whether these are hybrid (XMP/EXPO) or XMP only, as AMD-specific EXPO ones tend to be more expensive for guaranteed speeds...but a lot are now the hybrid ones and my AMD 7800X3D X670E system is working with the only offering of XMP profiles for 6400MHz & 6600MHz in the BIOS.

The hybrid version is...

CMP64GX5M2B6000Z30

The Intel XMP version is...

CMP64GX5M2B6000C30

I would always double-check the ASUS QVL list before purchasing any RAM kit.

That's precisely where I found the Dominator modules :D

Current modules are these: https://www.cybertek.fr/memoire-pc/corsair-vengeance-16go-1x16-ddr5-5200mhz-oem-138800.aspx

XMP only, so probably Intel optimised? They're the sticks that were put in the machine when it came.

And yeah, the Dominators are on the ASUS motherboard QVL. The Corsair ones aren't, but I had Corsair RGB Vengeance sticks in the last machine and they were pretty solid.

I heard you can get 2 x fake sticks to fill out the empty slot with RGB on them to complete the look of the machine, so I may have to look into that as well :D

Edit: Looks like the "Light Enhancement Kits" are only available for the Dominator kit. So I'll likely go down that route...
