RE: New Gaming Build (3000 series)

Hey everyone!

Hope everyone is keeping safe and well!

Following up from my previous thread: New Build - Suggestions? I did indeed decide to wait for the 3000 series and AMD new CPUs.

I'm once again asking for build advice/suggestions. The requirements and such are mostly the same.

I'm fine with the 3080 waiting-times. I may consider the GPU empty and buy a card elsewhere (if quicker) as I've seen OC/Currys get MSI randomly in-store (not online).

Budget£2,000-£2,500 GBP (system only; no peripherals; no operating system)
Use-caseGaming Warzone/FPS (1080p-1440p), Live Streaming (Twitch), Programming, Video editing (casual hobby; stream highlights/clips nothing serious)
Monitor(s)3x 1440p. Left/Right for Twitch chat, OBS etc. Middle display gaming only. Yet to purchase monitors.
LifeI'll likely use this system for a good few years, maybe swapping parts over time.

as always, THANK YOU!

Stay safe.

Unless you want to get a samsung g9 instead of 3 screens ;) tho im guessing the 3 monitors are for functionality
Yeah. I considered G9 in the other thread and checked out my buddy's rig with the G9 but honestly for me for work and window arrangement i found it so much easier with 3 displays than messing around with ultrawide. Does look good when gaming though across the whole screen / split!

for £42 extra is the Ryzen 3900X worth the £42 over the 5800X or nah? In previous thread I was suggested the 3900X/3950X but not sure if the 5800X is the new entry? As i believe that didn't exist during my other thread.

I've also ditched the WiFi card and removed my Elgato 4K60 PRO MK.2 as it seems cheaper via Currys @ £175 (vs £198 PCS).

5800x is a much newer chip and will outperform the 3900x. It is better to keep all the advice in a single thread to prevent the need to go searching for previous answers. The build from @AgentCooper is a good one.
Thanks! I was speaking to Jarrod and he quoted someone's comment "Compared to the 5600X and 5900X, the 5800X is definitely less interesting for its price, especially if you're just gaming." I guess Gamers Nexus isn't a fan either price-wise? But i try and take YT reviews as a pinch of salt as mostly ads or Intel fanboys lol. Just like @SpyderTracks i avoid comparison sites for marks. Only sites i really use are price comparisons.

the extra cores on the 5800x vs 5600x make it more futureproofed for gaming. Right now, the 5600x is definitely the sweetspot, but a lot of newer games like COD and Cyberpunk will make use of the extra cores. Plus with PS5 and XB Series X being 8 core now, you can bet your bottom dollar games will more progress towards 8 cores as a standard.

I agree, value wise, it's in a weird area, but when the budget's there, I would always spec it as a minimum on a high end gaming build.

Furthermore when you factor in DLSS and RayTracing, they both benefit from extra cores.

So you recommend the 5800X too? I think that's what I might go with from @AgentCooper's build. Minus the Wi-Fi card and adding a Elgato 4K MK.2.

Is a 3070 fine or should I go 3080? 3 1440p monitors (gaming on just one) £2,850 @ 3080 level - £2,548.00 3070 (so +£312 for 3070>3080).

My guess is 500GB Samsung 980 for WindowsOS, 1TB 970 EVO for Games (COD: Warzone) and the 2TB for media/stuff i access less-often.

PCs confuse me now days, like why is a cheaper CPU 5800X better than the more expensive 3900X really shows money doesn't always mean better - plus depends on usage case I assume haha.

I play PS4/PS5 too but Warzone 80 FOV hurts! :(

3070 will be good for 1440p.

3900x is last generation, but it’s the equivalent of the 5900x in tier, but with the generational improvements with the 5000 series, the 5800x exceeds it across the board, especially in gaming.

Just because it’s an old generation doesn’t mean it becomes significantly cheaper, that’s just not how markets work.

Totalky get you in FOV. I never play under 100% but will normally max it out whenever possible, makes such a big difference.

Price wise on release there was £50 diffrence between the 5800x and 5900x and I agreed with the gaming nexus videos nowadays its £214 more so the video price wise is dated and with the new prices im sure his opinion would of changed the new metro exodus enhanced edition has a recommended spec of 8 cores aswell :) I agree with 5600x is the sweet spot for majority of games where as the 5800x in my opinion is the sweet spot for ultra settings but when you take thermals into account that also adds to the price of a 5800x as u need a better aio cooler then the 5600x its a tough one ! I have a 5800x and would recommend one its a beast for gaming !

TDo you know if a 3070 is easier or harder to get hold of over a 3080?

I see my local Currys get 3080 stock a few times a month but they rarely get 3070s so I assume it's a more popular/in demand card for gamers or just less being produced? I don't mind the wait times regardless.

Far easier, there's a thread on them, but the average is around 3 weeks afaik unless that's changed recently.

3080 is more like 110 working days!

Interesting! I've just seen the "admit it, you bought the 3090 because the 3080 wait times were too much for you" thread. Seems STRIX 3090 is faster(?) but i don't really wanna get a 3090 which is +£2,088 on top LOL.

But I'm pretty impatient uh-oh... :(

Also seems a 3080 wont fit the case, anyways. I'll get a 3070 and hope I get okay FPS @ 120 FOV.

> The graphics card you have selected has a length of approximately 32cm and the case you have selected can only support graphics cards up to 28cm in length when configured with the Corsair H115i ELITE CAPELLIX RGB Hydro Series High Performance CPU Cooler. Please select a different Cooler or alternatively choose a different case.

The 3080 would be wasted at 1440p, it's a 4k card anyway.

I was thinking more future-wise when i get 4K panels when they're more affordable but I guess I can just upgrade the card later on as I doubt the 4K displays will drop anytime soon..

I guess a 3070 will power 3x 1440p screens for now, plus easier to get hold of so that's a bonus! :) What FPS would I be looking at Warzone, high/ultra 1440p with the above suggested build? I'd like to target around 120fps 1080p/1440p.

Thanks.

My twitch buddy has a 3080 and a 5800x and gets 130/140fps @ 2K about 70-80fps in Cyberpunk (admittedly Cyberpunk is probably a game I won’t play lol).
Cyberpunk is a badly optimized game I get 80fps with 5800x 3080 on a good game ( in terms of optimization )like doom eternal I push past 240 frames intesting to note there are apparently issues with 3000series gpu,s and warzone in terms of performance but thats on the developers of warzone and not the hardware
