Recoil IV Power adapter

Hi

I'm currently looking at the Recoil IV but Im curious, does it require 2 power adapters plugged in?
On the options it lists as giving 2 power adapters, and Im thinking it isnt for spare. If i've identified the chassis correctly, the Recoil IV uses the Clevo x170sm-g model which would seem to confirm this. I'm hoping that I'n wrong.
I know this is a fairly beast of a machine but having to plug 2 becomes cumbersome when mobile. Interestingly, if I went for similar / lesser specs and go for the Defiance VII it only uses 1x 180 power adapter.

Many thanks for any advice given.

The 17" Recoil isn't a laptop, it's a DTR and so uses desktop processors and does indeed need 2 adapters to power it.

it's a monster.

Again, it's a DTR (desktop replacement), so not designed to be portable, it would be useless for that as it's extremely heavy and has next to no battery life.

The defiance is a laptop.

I appreicate the advice.

Thats rather unfortunate. In which case, it falls to either the Defiance or the Vyper. Comparing those two laptops with pretty much identical specs: (Apologies for format. Unable to link specs due to web error, have emailed PCS regarding the issue).

- i7 10875H
- 64GB 2666MHz DDR4
- NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 Super Max-Q
- 2 TB Samsung Evo 970 plus
- Arctic Mx-4 Extreme Thermal
- Killer Wifi 6 AX1650 (Defiance) - Intel Wifi 6 AX201 (Vyper)

The Vyper comes out at nearly £120 more, however I'm not sure why. Due to the magnesium alloy chassis? From reading the reviews, the webcam on the Vyper is placed at the base of the screen?

What are you using it for?

To link specs, just paste it into notepad first and then copy into the forum.

Gaming, mainly RPGs, MMORPGs, Simulation and Strategy games. All of which usually heavily modded. Game development software, Unity, Blender mainly.

I think the battery on the Vyper maybe a lot of the extra cost, it's 91WH vs the Defiance 73 (which is still very good).

Cool thanks for the advice.
I'll look into getting the Defiance as soon as I'm able to login.

Seems like a bizarre design choice for the Vyper to have the cam where it is.

A lot of laptops do it now, it's because of the very slim bezels, but I don't really think any model has managed to pull it off yet, it's a bad trade off.

I think new tech has allowed for much smaller camera lenses, so they're starting to put them back in the top of the screen. Think it was a resounding fail in design choice.

Personally I’d choose the defiance, just think it’s for better cooling.

Why do you think Defiance has better cooling? PC specialist even mention a warning in the description of Defiance:

"Due to the high performance components built into this ultra slim laptop, the exterior chassis temperature can reach approximately 45°C when running under full load"

Surely, it says more about the chassis, but better chassis usually also means better cooling. Just trying to figure out, which one is better too.

Thanks.

Says that on all the thin and light laptops. It's a standard message.
