RMA Finance options?

Hi, so I've recently requested an RMA for a keyboard fault on my Gaming laptop, it's been about a week and they've sent me an update email saying they've reviewed my laptop and have noted the only viable solution is to replace the keyboard and also the motherboard; I was expecting the keyboard to be replaced but motherboard replacement was outside the equation, the fault on the motherboard was tiny: (please find attached photo/s) nonetheless if that is the only solution I'm wondering whether PCS offer a finance option to pay off my outstanding components, i.e the motherboard which is currently quoted by PCS at £553, this is quite a hefty price but expected, any help on the best thing to do atm, i.e buy a usb keyboard etc?

NOTE: The fault is as follows: I broke two keys on my keyboard, from there PCS sent instruction on how to remove the keyboard to find the serial number which didn't go as planned, in the process I managed to snap part of the white tab on the FPC FFC connector and due to which maybe in the progress the pins on the connector bent, I regarded this as minor and after identifying the serial number, I connected the keyboard just as you would, but upon turning my laptop on only some keys were working keeping in mind before this all my keys were working (literally only the keycaps snapped off), I don't know how things have escalated so much from 2 keycaps but I guess it is what it is.

Thanks a lot,
Mxlla

You'd have to speak to PCS, it's not something we'd know about. PCS don't monitor the forums and none of us work for them.

Motherboard replacement would be the only way to get that connector working again, and hence the keyboard working. Makes perfect sense.

Quick question, are you telling me that it's impossible to fix that small problem on the FPC FFC connector without replacing the whole motherboard, its beyond me that I have to replace the full motherboard for something so small, if that's the case im better of taking it to a third party pc repairer to take a look at it as my warranty is unfortunately finished, apologies as I know you don't work for PCS but I really want to sort this out as soon as possible :/

You could obviously resolder the component if you were an accomplished solderer, but no manufacturer would offer that as an RMA piece of work, replacement of the part would be standard practice. Think if you put a dent in a door or something on a car, the manufacturer would never knock out the dent, they'd just replace the door, you'd go to a third party for bespoke work of knocking the dent out.

Plus, PCS are builders not repairers. Whilst they probably have the facilities to carry out minor repairs, sourcing the connector and replacing it is not a service I would expect them to offer. Note that I don't work for PCS. Replacement of the faulty part (the motherboard in this case) is the best you could reasonably expect PCS to do.

Update; PCS have apologised for taking the easy route and going straight for the motherboard replacement option, the person I spoke to said he was extremely surprised the technician never took a look at it first and he was very surprised PCS specialist didn't work their way around it using another solution, he said looking at the value of your laptop currently (second hand) which would be around £700 replacing the motherboard for £600 is not worth it at all, he has now contacted the manufacturer to repair the motherboard themselves which would work out to be much cheaper than replacing it all together, Hope this helps and PCS have by far the best customer service :)

That’s very good, and unusual. Glad that’s worked out for you.
