RTX 3080

So my 5900x/3080 build that finally arrived on Tuesday after a 5-month wait...
GPU was DOA. 🙃🤪

I would get some advice unless you're certain it's dead. There are a lot of symptoms that can make it appear like a failed GPU which can be easily resolved.

Did extensive troubleshooting + my old card worked in the new build fine. PCS have already agreed an RMA which is good.

@AgentCooper what's the cake deal? 100+ working days?

Ah cool, sounds like you’ve done the testing then. Shame it’s busted, hopefully they can get you a replacement quickly. Are you just RMAing the card or the whole build?

Yeah I work in IT so did all my testing before I called them haha. Just the card, should be arriving tomorrow...but I've also got my first vaccine tomorrow. Hope they don't come when I'm out (though there will be someone to take delivery)

That’s great, should be painless then, both the vaccine and replacement card

I've just enquired as to when my order placed on 01/02/2021 will be expected and have been told that they can't give any news on my queue position but have said they are currently working on orders from 28/12/2020. I'm sure I've seen people on here having orders placed in Jan being built and dispatched?

It totally depends what components are in the build as to how quickly it will be built. Builds from January have certainly been done, but if someone had a 3080 and a 5950x then end of December would be more likely.

There were a couple of people that said they had gone into build at 96 or 97ish days last week so that would put them sometime around mid to end of January. I'm on 95 days today so I was also hoping to be getting an update soon. Either people on here are telling porkies or PC Specialist are working from out of date information.

It’s not just the 3080 that would attribute to taking more time, there are CPUs that are very hard to come by as well, I don’t think anyone is talking porkys as you say. Some builds from December no doubt are still waiting, likely on the 5950x. Most going through now are from January orders though.

The PC can’t be built until ALL components are available, it’s not just the GPU that’s a factor.

I am on day 97, i have gone with the 3080 and Ryzen 5 3600 in hope of a faster build and upgrade the cpu at a later date so fingers crosses

I'm on 97 too with the 3080. Hopefully it won't be another month until ours are dispatched. Got really excited when I saw guys going into building on day 95/96

The vaccine was, the 3080 delivery not so much - tracked the DPD driver the whole way, on one refresh it suddenly flipped to "Sorry we missed you" with a photo of my house from 30m away. Not even sure what that's meant to prove. Was by the door the whole time!

I have seen that so many times and just dont understand it. If you go to all the trouble to drive to the place to deliver the package and take a picture then just spend no more than 5 more minutes to actually leave the package.

I try not to say anything negative in these scenarios, people are just happy to get their system and show it off. But… the vein in my head does pulsate when I see SO MANY CABLES.

But to each and every one of you, please do not judge yourself by my particular set of standards. I’m a cable managing superfreak and it is my own personal obsession. As long as you dust regularly, you have my blessing.
