RTX 3080

Interestingly Curry's are selling PCSpecialist PC's with 3080's in again, they had been out of stock for a while.

Still debating on whether I should order on the 5th of Nov for a Zen 3 5900 with 3080. I really want it before Christmas but if not possible would probably just wait until spring when things calmed down a bit.

I wonder whether they actually have any in stock though? It's one thing advertising them for sale but it's quite another actually delivering the things.....

Seems to be, I can certainly click through to checkout and beyond for collection and there are other models that are listed as not in stock. Hard to be 100% unless you go all the way through though :)

And they have not been listed as in stock recently. I've been hammering their site for 3080 stock for the past week!

I would hazard an educated guess that PCS are contractually obliged to provide PC’s to the likes of Curry’s first.

I know in previous job we had pretty hard penalties in place with some suppliers.

Yes I've no issue with it. If they've ordered they have just as much right to stock as you or me. I think its another good sign of increasing stock (y)

Nobody knows, only PCS and Curry's.

I beg all of you to please avoid using these reasonable musings of @Gavras as the basis for a rumour that PCS actually DO supply Curry's first. This is how unhelpful rumours like this get started. Thanks. :)

More right, individual buyers have no buying power and a limited sales contract with no real penalties. If anything the control sits with PCS. Anyone with a decent ability will have written the supplier contract with PCS pretty tight.

I do wonder when the Big Navi sale date will be, I know the launch/announcement is tomorrow.
I figured I'd go back to Nvidia after supporting AMD for years, noticed alot of streamers tend to use Nvidia but blaming unprecedented demand when you release a card that completely annihilates anything that exists is a bit of a cop out excuse tbh.

I was hoping to have this build before christmas, I have no qualms with PCS but I'm questioning how much I trust Nvidia to fulfil stock before the end of the year, I wonder if I can get Big Navi in before then.

This morning i was checking twitter and in my feed i saw that some content creators got the 3080 for free from Nvidia. Instead of questioning PCS people should turn their attention to them really. Sending out the cards for free (i get the free promotion/exposure) while shops, manufacturers and customers all around the world are still waiting is not a great move. Just saying...

I have a g-sync monitor so don't really want to switch for that reason alone :( Will definitely avoid tying in with a specific vendor like that in the future.

I do think Nvidia have massively dropped the ball on this release and I don't think it's deliberate (as per some of the conspiracy theories), I can only assume they have serious manufacturing issues.

Agree this is 100% fully on Nvidia (y) Not sure a few cards to content creators will make much difference though :)

That’s absolutely normal and has been the case for decades, there’s nothing new there, the free samples are sent out to 3rd party reviewers as manufacturers gain an awful lot of sales from 3rd party reviewers posting their findings. Those benchmarks take a SIGNIFICANT amount of time to work through and collate, and the best ones like GamersNexus and hardware unboxed (and others) are done in strict and extremely professional testing methodologies and with very high end niche equipment that costs thousands of dollars.

Those people earn that card for the free testing and promotion they do for the manufacturers, and they should be fully supported as without them, most of us customers would be at the mercy of marketing drivel that rarely translates to real world performance.

I've ordered a Gsync Asus Rog Strix Monitor too so I feel a bit deflated, I guess I could probably swap for a Freesync monitor.. I'll review the options just in case.

At this rate I might save enough by switching to a full AMD build that I can afford to change the monitor, CPU and card.

Just to add to this, I realise I primarily mentioned 3rd party reviewers as "content creators" and perhaps you meant more "Influencers". But it's the same bag. I know, some of them really are trashy and it feels like they're not doing anything of value, but they target SIGNIFICANT numbers of viewers, and those viewers are incredibly succeptable to those opinions.

It's free advertising, as part of the conditions of receiving that card, nvidia or whoever it may be just require that influencer to say "oh, I'm playing this on a 3080 and it looks great", a lot of their viewers will take that as the fact they need one too, even on their 1080p screen. It's incredibly valuable to nvidia and companies like that.

Like it or not, these youtubers and twitch streamers reach MASSIVE audiences and are influential to those people.

Maybe it's just me but I always treat this with suspicion when 'influencers' recommend anything, especially when they are praising it.
I follow Linustechtips as well as JayzTwocents and find that they give much more impartial reviews, especially linus who, due to multiple sponsorships and his own store seems like he doesn't care much about whether Nvidia wants him to praise their new card, I was honestly considering buying the 3090 originally but his review of it basically said 'its overkill and pointless'

Absolutely, there are good ones and bad ones, I personally love Jayz2Cents, Hardware Unboxed, Linus and Brainus, find them all very impartial and totally based on the scientific evaluation rather than any brand loyalty or being paid for a particular response. They will actively state (and repeat it often) that they never accept any kind of payments for reviews other than the testing hardware, and I wholeheartedly believe them based on their accurate history.

I'm not a fan at all of "Influencers" but unfortunately we're in the minority there, especially when it comes to streaming games like Fortnite and COD, these streamers give out a lot of misinformation regarding what video card you need and high refresh rates.

That is really the best approach, take the majority of reviews with a pinch of salt and don’t take a single reviewer as single source.

Even the bad reviews, the negatives are for that reviewer and may not be negatives for huge swathes of the population.

my view on this is:

A reviewer / influencer needs to give a review that is not too negative but balanced.

for those being supplied products, that supply would dry up if they were overly negative.

It is actually hard to give a realistic balanced review of a product.

how Many freebies, treats, holidays, free flights to Expo’s are required to get a decent review of a product....

in between the greed of the influencer and the greed of the manufacturer, who thinks about the customer?

This may be apocryphal, but a restaurant here was asked by some 'influencers' whether they could get free meals in return for positive reviews on their sites. The restaurant said that they were happy for 'influencers' to visit the restaurant and for every review the 'influencers' posted they would provide a meal free to a homeless person or to someone in need. Guess how many 'influencers' took up the offer....?
