Yes, but that's not the price PCS has been selling the 7800X3D at.
If we take the two configurations where the only difference is the CPU, then it's about £154 difference. If we use the RRP for the 9800X3D of £469.99 and remove the £154, it would make PCS's 7800X3D price £315.99...which is more in line with online prices in the 12 months before they went OOS.
You could even claim that this means a 'real world' price difference of almost 49% for 10-15% performance boost!!!
Which is all moot if they never get the 7800X3D in again, or they do and it's at a premium price
I can't see the chip coming down in price anytime soon. I think it'll only reduce once the 9950X3D is out. Like most I'm hoping it's going to be dual CCD with 3D cache and unlocked. If they manage that, it'll be the ultimate have it all chip...... especially with the 9700X vs 9800X3D results across the board.

Yes, if the performance scales with the extra 3D v-cache then it will be an all-round beast - don't know why you'd buy anything else, unless you needed lots more cores in a Threadripper.

I think the 9950X3D is going to be an absolute killer across the board.
Early leaks are that they're going to be doing an X3D Threadripper part!!! The performance gains we've seen in Adobe (Photoshop) on the 9800X3D I think took everyone by surprise, have that benefit in a thread ripper is just going to be mind blowing.

That's a really impressive jump. It's not even a good OC in honesty, even using PBO with the right settings you can do better than that. I get 5.4Ghz from my 7800X3D without anything crazy on the settings (PBO & Curve). He could have taken that way further. With a memory tweak it would offer a big jump too.
We're going to see some ridiculous numbers coming I think. I wasn't even considering upgrading but if the 9950X3D delivers, I don't think I'll be able to help myself.

GN Steve and Bearded Hardware are doing a proper live overclock on it soon with Liquid Nitrogen, expecting to hit 6GHz but given how low those temps are with PBO on a standard AIO I wouldn’t be surprised if they exceed 6GHz
Derbauer hit a 5.6Ghz with a sloppy OC. Granted he delidded with some liquid metal for a good transfer, but it's easy got 5.8 in it IMO with a fine tune on an AIO with a delid & liquid metal in place.
I would be amazed if it didn't smash past 6ghz on LN.
As always, there will be a hard ceiling but this chip looks bonkers. I don't think it'll be long before non-X3D chips are depreciated and only really kept for very low end systems.
I was going to suggest 7Ghz might be doable but I didn't want to jinx it.

Why would anyone buy a non-X3D with these on the table, there’s just zero reason for them, they’re already redundant a month after release 🤣Is it not amazing how one good release from a manufacturer can almost wipe the slate clean. The ropey AM5 release is all forgiven with the X3D results
I hope they didn't make too many of the non-x3D chips though

The price is the only thing that might make it a bit of a stretch, but the 7600X3D has recently released and the 7800X3Ds are starting to crop up again.
Where the 9800X3D is unattainable due to cost, the 7600X3D should slot in nicely. I think I would easily have that over a 9700X or any of the rest of the range.
The release order still has me curious, and optimistically so. It makes sense in any business to keep your best till last, ok not necessarily the best but the most appealing. I've said it before but my thinking is that the 9950X3D might be something very special, as releasing this 9800X3D just now would only hurt the sales of the premium parts if they aren't a no compromise offering. Previously early adopters were forced to pay a premium for a chip they didn't necessarily want in order to get the latest X3D tech, this worked for AMD and it would work just now as well..... unless the 9950X3D had no down side (price aside).
The other side of it, I guess, is nothing to do with the 9800X3D and more to do with the 9950X. If the 9950X3D scales similar to the 9800 then the 9950X becomes pretty much redundant.
It's either that or AMD wanted to make up for the poor AM5 release to this point, I doubt that would be the case though. They're not likely to do favours that hurt their profit margins.

The other news that's hitting hard is that they're going to be rolling X3D technology out on upcoming mobile chips, so anyone thinking of buying a gaming laptop, I would STRONGLY recommend to wait until January CES announcements as I think we're going to be seeing some really competitive options from AMD this generation both in performance and efficiency.
