Ryzen 9 5900X/Geforce 3080 TI vs Ryzen 9 5950X/Geforce 3090

Hello People,

Still trying to build my perfect PC on PCS but keep coming back to the very common spec vs cost question,

If I go with the Ryzen 9 5950X/Geforce 3090 I obviously get a top spec but the cost is pretty immense and making it hard to push the buy button. The Ryzen 9 5900X/Geforce 3080 TI saves me about £900 so makes the cost easier to swallow but gives me the feeling I am missing out on something.

The computer will be built using Crosshair VII Hero and 64GB of ram and its not that easy to make those savings on other components. Mainly used for Photo/video editing. gaming and some 3D design.

I guess my question is how much performance difference will I actually lose going with the Ryzen 9 5900X/Geforce 3080 TI. I know its all relative to what the computer is being used for but would I be disappointed in real world use or should I just suck up the cost of the Ryxen 9 5950X/Geforce 3090,

Thanks

When it comes to gaming there is no real benefit to the 5950x and 3090 combo over the 5900x and 3080Ti.

Production side is a different beast though. I guess it depends entirely how much video, photo and 3D modelling you do and at what scale?

The 5900x and 3080Ti will still do these tasks extremely well, but the 5950x and 3090 is as top as it gets

I keep asking myself this everyday, Its like I am stuck in a loop of continually changing the spec. but never buying anything. Interesting point on the gaming though maybe this will sway me towards the 5900x and 3080Ti. Is this sufficient for 4K gaming?

Thanks for the reply...

Another question if you were to lower the spec of one of them which would it be? Processor or graphics card?
I mean I guess either one of the other. I can't imagine you ever needing more than the 5900x or 3080Ti just based on the fact you aren't sure if you need them.

If you needed them it would be a no brainer if you know what I mean?

I'd say the 5900x and 3080Ti combo will not disappoint and yes 4K 144Hz gaming will be fine with those

For photo editing you will likely see little if any benefit from either the 5950X or 3090. There may be some small improvements (<<10%) in speed for video editing, but whether those are worth the extra cost is a different question.

The level of Video Editing will dictate the RAM & the CPU
The level of rendering will dictate the GPU.
The level of photo editing will influence RAM, neither the CPU or GPU will put a dent in this usage.

What software are you using? Are you using the software's professionally where time is money?

I would discount gaming entirely. It won't really come into the discussion here. You would get a cigarette paper between the performance differences when it comes to that.

Another point, you dont really NEED the Crosshair Hero mobo. Just get the x570-f and a wifi dongle
