Uses:
Primarily gaming - WoW (with multiple addons making it quite demanding as well wanting to play on maximum settings)
COD: BLOPS6/Warzone (all games of course maximum settings)
Star Wars outlaws
These are the primary games but obviously partnered with a forever growing steam library

Monitors: 3x 1440p (1 for the game playing, others for extras; twitch, YouTube, other etc)

I understand the graphics card chosen may be overkill if I have no urgency to go to 4k gaming as im happy on 1440p (don’t want to replace 3 monitors if im being honest haha)

But this is why im coming here for advice before I make the final decision, my budget is around 3-3.5k for a Christmas treat

TLDR: absolute maximum settings on all games for the best experience on a 1440p monitor

PS. Will this case fit in my tech lab XL desk mount ? Picture shown for reference

Thanks in advance

This is a weird build. You've gone for a mega, mega build, with a mid-tier graphics card. You're spending loads of money on a CPU, motherboard, case, and outrageous storage setup that will gain you next to no performance, but the graphics card is a good, solid 1440p one, no better.

So I'd ask the following questions:
  • Are you sure you need multi-core CPU performance? Most games do better with chips like the (currently out of stock) 7800X3D rather than the higher core count of the 9950X/7950X.
  • Are you sure you need that storage setup? I reckon you can get something that would be in practice indiscernable for £150 less. Gen 5 drives aren't useful for gaming systems, really.
  • What precise monitors do you have? With your budget, even though it's overkill for 1440p, I'd be inclined to get the 4080 Super rather than the 4070 Super. (Incidentally, you could always replace the middle monitor and keep the outside ones, not that I expect it needs replacing.)
  • Are you sure you need that massive, massive case? It gains you nothing in performance over a more moderate one, and it's not like you're going to be putting an amazing custom water cooling loop in it.

That build looks like you've gone "this is my budget so I have to max it out". £3.5k on a 1440p is crazy.

You could save yourself a grand and get a 4k setup, with the extra thousand on a new 4K monitor.

To answer the case mount question, in the configurator, if you click on the picture of any case, it will bring up a spec list, including dimensions. I would wonder if a case the size of the HAF would fit it but I don't know the mount's size. The case I selected is an excellent case for this level of build...if you did like how the HAF looks, maybe check the Fract Design Torrent which, at £192, is £140 less than the HAF

As to the spec, this is £700 cheaper and will perform, arguably, better due to the better graphics card. I am torn with the CPU as the 7800x3D is "the" gaming chip but is out of stock for another month (possibly)...on the other hand, WOW benefits from a higher speed and the 7900x3D has that. I could have gone with the 7700 but I understand it also likes the 3D cache:

The higher speed on the 7900X3D only applies to the non-gaming (non 3d cache) cores, so is not relevant. I'd go either 7800x3D or 7950X3D. But you could cut further by going for a less overkill motherboard, and I would probably argue for a 1000W power supply too, personally.

I thought you’d only just upgraded your current build?

Bit confused why you’re getting a brand new one?

Appreciate the help and replies guys that’s why I come for support first , I’m very amateur when it comes to builds, there’s only so much research you can do but when you don’t know much it doesn’t help for the end goal. I didn’t end up upgrading my old pc last time I left it as it was to hold out for a complete new machine now we’re later down the line

My current (main) monitor (the middle one) is a razer raptor 27 (144hz)

I do like the look of the build posted so I appreciate that thank you, I think alls I’ve done is basically looked at adding the best of the best (which obviously isn’t right considering the build I need)

Made a few changes based on the feedback and pondering with this one, the builder advised to drop the PSU down too so I've done that which shaved some money off, I've stuck with a 1TB as main SSD too as I'm currently using 600GB on my current drive as of now, also a huge fan of RGB (hence the case choice haha)

I didn’t end up upgrading my old pc last time I left it as it was to hold out for a complete new machine now we’re later down the line
What's the reason though, seems an awful waste of your current PC? The whole point of them is that you can upgrade them and avoid having to spend so much money to get current gen performance?

Between the 5800X3D and the 7800X3D, there's not that much in it, especially at 1440p

Kind of defeats the whole point of buying a custom PC in the first place really.

Your current PC has many years left in it, it would be poor advice to suggest anything but upgrading the current rig IMHO. The performance on a suitable upgrade to your current system and a brand new replacement would be exactly the same, no difference.

truth be told if I’m being honest I just fancy treating myself , I know the idea of buying custom is for the option to upgrade down the line but I just love the whole experience of getting something new, the delivery, the setting up, the fresh start all of it is such a buzz to me

Not something I can help on, absolutely pointless and goes against the whole ethos of a custom pc

Seriously, do yourself a favour, upgrade the current system and put the change into a top tier OLED v3 monitor and you'll FAAARRRR outperform replacing the system.

Currently you’ve got the potential for a really high end experience let down by old display technologies. Once someone has experienced full HDR, they’ll never go back to standard definition.

Im afraid you got totally suckered into that monitor, I can’t believe the price of it.

Perfect okay, I’ll look into this and edit the current with a monitor upgrade , could you point me in the direction of upgrades for current build to take it to the next level and maybe some monitor recommendations please, thank you

@shaunpomfrett, the first thing you need to do is decide whether you are going to look at upgrading your existing PC (https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/forums/threads/upgrade-help.98322/#post-752460) or a buying a new PC (this thread).

I'm happy leaving the threads seperate currently, but once a decision is made we can focus on what you actually want. Folk here will offer their personal advice based on their understanding of current available PC components and potential improvements but its ultimately up to you whether you still want to go ahead and buy a new PC or upgrade.

My two pence worth:
In my opinion upgrading will be significantly lower cost and theoretically better value. You will be able to eek many more years of excellent performance out of your current PC with relatively minor changes.

But, that said, you don't get a shiny new PC at the end of it, you just get some shiny new bits. So its up to you.

Addendum

I'd urge anyone assisting to not let any personal bias as to whether they agree OP should upgrade vs buy new to colour any assistance they offer once a decision has been made, feel free to offer your reasoning why you think the way that you do but please remember its only your opinion and not a universal truth. If you don't think you can get past it, just bow out of the conversation quietly.

@steaky360 yes ultimately my end goal was to get a shiny new pc as a Christmas treat, but I feel I’m sort being flak out of it , I literally just wanted advice on whether the above spec built was suitable and whether it was a good build , completely disregarding my current pc as that’s potentially being handed down to my friend nonetheless , TIA

If you absolutely must have a new shiny shiny then below is where I would tend to aim. I agree that upgrading is the best value and the whole reasoning behind getting a good platform to begin with, but I also understand what it feels like to want the latest and greatest for no reason other than a whim.

Note that to make the most of the 4080 Super, you really want to be upgrading the monitor to something higher end. You can just replace the gaming monitor with the external 2 still used as they currently are. In honesty I would probably replace the 3 of them with a super ultrawide, for the best experience, but replacing just the middle one is a fair trade off.

The below has the 7900 selected, this is a placeholder for the 7800X3D when it's back in stock. I wouldn't recommend the 7950X3D for your uses, there are niggles with it when parking. I think most of them have been resolved but you'll gain nothing from it in honesty.

If you want to stick with your current monitor configuration I would lower the GPU to the 4070 Ti Super. It's a top tier 1440p card and would save almost £200. With that monitor, you would never notice the difference.

Would you be able to recommend any particular monitors for me to look at , I’ll only be replacing the middle one as the 3rd serves as a ps5 monitor aswell so just the middle , I know it has to stay as 1440p which I’m more than happy with

If you're getting a 1440p display, I'd really strongly recommend the AW2725DF:

Yes it's pushing £700, but it's a cut above literally any other 1440p monitor. I wouldn't replace an existing 1440p display with literally anything else. If you can't afford it, your current one is just fine.

Price is fine, well within budget, but I believe with the 4080 super im better off going 4k, feel I’ve entered a wormhole now haha but once the monitor is done , the MB is back in stock 12/10 so im Good to go as of then
