When i was changing my fan setting in the BIOS, i noticed the menu was very slow/sluggish with the mouse. I have the ASUS ROG STRIX X570-F Gaming mobo. The system seems to run fine with no performance issues i can notice. Had a look at the system info and the BIOS version/date says American Megatrends inc 3404, 14/01/2021. Is this something to worry about, should i ring PCS about a BIOS update for this mobo?

In what sense is it sluggish? Does the mouse cursor move slowly? Do the screens change slowly? Is the keyboard reponse sluggish? Is it slow to save changes and exit?
We really need much more detail on exactly how it's sluggish - a video would help a lot.

For the BIOS itself to run slow there would have to be something catastrophically wrong and very unusual.
What’s more likely is slow mouse support outside of windows. Try with a wired mouse and see if it behaves differently.

My mouse is connected via USB - Mouse performance on my BIOS is slow enough to be almost unusable - delay in cursor catching up with my movements - clicks can be hit and miss - etc - which is why I use keyboard controls instead.
Using Q-fan in BIOS is tedious as a result. Which is why I use Fan Expert mostly instead from within Windows.
A wired connection might be a bit better, but BIOS is not a full OS so I consider my mouse behaviour to be perfectly normal as far as I am concerned. I wouldn't worry about it at all.

It probably depends on the polling period being used I'd imagine. If the mouse is buffering it's movements quicker than the BIOS can handle them then I imagine lag will result.
Perhaps if the OP has one of those fancy mice where you can change the polling rate then it might help if they changed it.....?

Juts checked my mouse specs - it has a dpi of 1000 which is high for a basic mouse but low for a gaming mouse I suppose - can you tell what your DPI is - just for comparison?
(EDIT - I can't see my polling rate so have no idea what it is.....)

I have the same motherboard and when I am in the BIOS it is also very slow like moving in treacle when using the mouse; when making selections with the keyboard then everything is quick as you would expect. I think it has as much to do with the resolution on the widescreen monitor not working too well with the BIOS output and the mouse dpi.

Dunno to be honest. The blurb says it's variable between 400 and 4000 dpi but I've no idea how you can change that. I don't game so it's never really been an issue for me.

It's hardware innit? As I said I've no idea even how to change the DPI on that mouse. I can swap the pointer speed between two settings via a mouse button but I don't suppose that affects the DPI at all? I did just install Logitech Options (against my better judgement - and only because the upcoming 21H1 will give me an excuse to reinstall Windows) but there's nothing in there to directly set the DPI.

I think the pointer speed button is actually changing the DPI.
I just remembered I have a USB mouse for the kids computer which has two DPI settings - so I'll run a quick test later for the OP - I'm stuck in a Teams meeting at the moment so can't restart into BIOS for a while!

The OP could try a different mouse - or better yet, fiddle with BIOS so much that you learn all the handy keyboard shortcuts and sequence of key presses within BIOS so you can go into it, change something and save and exit with your eyes closed. It works for me!

Thanks for the replies, i went into the BIOS again to have another look. I would say the mouse is kind of sluggish but not worryingly slow and not smooth like using windows but it is usable, maybe it's fine. I'm using a wired USB mouse, a Tecknet one which is about £15 so nothing fancy here. Also noticed that when i start the PC, if i dont turn the monitor power on first, i get a long beep followed by 3 short beeps after and it will boot after that and If i turn the monitor on first it's fine, no idea what that is either. Also here is the specs since i couldn't access it the other day.

The beeps with the monitor off is a well know effect and is nothing to worry about.
Good to hear, it was worrying me a bit but i thought it would be something to do with not recognizing a display without the power i guess. Doesn't seem i have to worry about doing a BIOS update then, the menus change fine when i click them just the mouse seems a big laggy/slow caused by USB compatibility issues maybe? since the more recent firmware updates on the ASUS site have that in them.

I think the lag is just simply the low refresh rate of the mouse information while using BIOS. I wouldn't think it's BIOS version realted myself.
Been having some issues recently with my PC. While running a game it will after a few days randomly crashes, black screen then i have to press alt tab to go to window and manually close the game then ALL games run on 1-2 fps basically unplayable and cant even navigate menus. I tried uninstalling the nvidia driver then re-installing which seems to make it normal but it happens again maybe a few days later. No idea, and my GPU usually runs at 69 degrees while gaming never really goes above that. Also i got an this error message

That error is clearly related to your RTX3070. Hopefully it's just a driver error but it could potentially be a graphics card issue.
Use DDU to remove the existing Nvidia driver (it will reboot) and then download and manually install the latest driver for your card and OS direct from the Nvidia website.

That's what i did today, hopefully it resolves the issue. Kind of strange how it works fine then suddenly crashes and black screen. Only when i try running games after the crash i get 1-2 fps and its unable to even load anything, but windows itself seems to run ok though
