Having been saving for a long time, and to upgrade to windows 11 as my old machine can't etc I'm thinking of upgrading my machine soon.
I have a LG OLED evo C3 48" 4K Smart TV.
It's uses will be some high end gaming but looking at something that at least in theory will hold up long term, media and I also do a bit of wed design and game design (mostly 2d style games). I have allot of physical media as well still.
My budget is going to be around the £3000 mark.
I am looking for the "best bang for you buck" mark. My current system still holds up pretty well at 1080 / 1440 resolutions with medium high resolutions but I would like to move up to 4K. FFXIV, flight sim are two of the main games I'd be looking at. I mostly tend to play what pops up on game pass but would love to do Spider-Man, Ratchet and Clank, God of War as well.
I was initially looking at an intel system till I read some of the problems with the new chips.

My main questions are the old I5 vs I7 and 4070TI VS 4080. I split my main .m2 into 2 separate drives after looking at some advice. After seeing the issues with current Intel chips I looked into AMD though I'm not as familiar any more with what sits where.

Would this be a better choice currently? Again I've tried to push the price to a similar area as the intel and have gone with the AMD video card mostly due to being OCD about keeping brands together, though if a Nvidia is a better choice let me know.

I know thats allot of information, I don't really have a preference between cards and chips, I've switched Intel / AMD for CPU and Nvidia / ATI / AMD for video cards over the years.

Hello, here is what I would recommend for 4K gaming PC.

INTEL is currently not worth anything. Avoid it.

Case
CORSAIR iCUE 5000X RGB MID TOWER GAMING CASE - Good quality case
Processor (CPU)

AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D Eight Core CPU (4.2GHz-5.0GHz/104MB w/3D V-CACHE/AM5) - It's perfect if the main goal is gaming. If work is as important, get a 7950X3D. It's your decision.
Motherboard

ASUS® ROG STRIX X670E-A GAMING WIFI (AM5, DDR5, PCIe 5.0, Wi-Fi 6E) - Overkill MB, but the budget is huge, so why not?
Memory (RAM)

32GB Corsair VENGEANCE DDR5 6000MHz (2 x 16GB) - AM5 frequency sweetspot
Graphics Card

16GB NVIDIA GEFORCE RTX 4080 SUPER - HDMI, DP, LHR - Top 4K GPU, IMHO
Graphics Card Support Bracket

NONE (BRACKET INCLUDED AS STANDARD ON 4070 Ti / RX 7700 XT AND ABOVE)
1st M.2 SSD Drive
512GB SOLIDIGM P44 PRO GEN 4 M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD (up to 7000MB/sR, 4700MB/sW) - Small, fast OS drive
1st M.2 SSD Drive

2TB SOLIDIGM P44 PRO GEN 4 M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD (up to 7000MB/sR, 6500MB/sW) - Fast main drive, overkill for games
Power Supply

CORSAIR 1200W RMx SHIFT SERIES™ MODULAR 80 PLUS GOLD, ULTRA QUIET - Minimum PSU for this level of build, with plenty room for future, unavoidable GPU upgrades.
Power Cable

1 x 1.5 Metre UK Power Cable (Kettle Lead, 1.0mm Core)
Processor Cooling
CORSAIR ICUE LINK H115i RGB HIGH PERFORMANCE CPU COOLER - Premium 280mm AIO, overkill for that CPU, newer than H100x, Link tech for less cables
Thermal Paste

STANDARD THERMAL PASTE FOR SUFFICIENT COOLING - Corsair XTM70 is better than MX-4
Sound Card

ONBOARD 6 CHANNEL (5.1) HIGH DEF AUDIO (AS STANDARD)
Network Card
ONBOARD 2.5Gbe LAN PORT
USB/Thunderbolt Options
MIN. 2 x USB 3.0 & 2 x USB 2.0 PORTS @ BACK PANEL + MIN. 2 FRONT PORTS
Operating System
Windows 11 Home 64 Bit - inc. Single Licence

Thanks for advice, I tend to dip in and out of keeping myself updated after I buy a system. Allot of my initial choices were more from a "brand loyalty" perspective, they worked before so I stick with them so it's nice to have a different perspective. I'd never actually considered the fact that the cooling paste included with the fan might actually be a better choice! I like the choice of the smaller .m2 my choice of Samsung limited me in size choices, but that again was purely from using them in the past.

Just because it has the Samsung name on it means nothing, I've had one fail on me and had to get replaced under Warranty from Samsung, and I think the 980 Pro in my desktop has just failed as well

1st Storage Drive

2TB SEAGATE BARRACUDA SATA-III 3.5" HDD, 6GB/s, 7200RPM, 256MB CACHE - Personal storage.

Yeah I know, my initial specs were just to give a general idea what I was aiming for using brands I'd used previously.

The P44s are actually more professional grade drives, they have higher endurance than the Samsungs while performing around the same speeds. They’re very good drives.

We’ve been recommending them for a while now and I think I may be right in thinking no one has reported a failure yet.

There have been failed Samsung drives though.

Its a solid choice with the P44

Cheers, I don't keep very upto date on stuff like this so it's nice to have people like you to give me a nudge on changing tech's. I probably wouldn't have caught the intel thing if not for this forum.

Please, be advised on a few points before proceeding.

Case: The Define 7 is very good quality, but the thermals on stock (door closed, filter on) seems far from optimal.

PSU: A 1000W ATX 3.0 could be enough, but unfortunately this Corsair RMx is the older ATX 2.4 version; it doesn't have transient spikes protection, it's less efficient at low loads and will limit your upgrades possibilities in the future. It's your decision, but I wouldn't do it.

AIO: H100x is an old model; H115i Link has new/improved fans and pump, runs quieter (2x140mm), less cabling with QX fans, it's a better overall choice, IMHO.

Pretty much exactly as you suggested initially, seen a slightly more expensive case I liked the looks of and seemed similar to the one you suggested.

Just a quick update on my original request, had unexpected bills that meant I needed to resave up some more money. I've revisited my original build a bit as the system is going to be on display a bit more than originally intended. I'm still possibly a few weeks away from being able to make a purchase (though I may go with the finance option to get it sooner). Is there any new CPU's due out that are worth waiting for or anything else to be aware of? I've changed boards from ASUS® ROG STRIX X670E-A to the ASUS® TUF GAMING X670E as the previous was a tad overkill and I really dislike the general look of it. As long as the TUF has bluetooth and can support the said .M2 drives without problems.
