Spec check for gaming laptop

Hi!

My friend (honestly) is looking for a gaming laptop and doesn't know where to start. He wants to be able to play most new releases and games like Red Dead 2. Would the following spec work out? his budget is around the £1,000 mark. Thanks in advance!

Can you post your link to the build please as it makes it easier to amend and saves us time. Some slight amends:

- you have a slower hard drive in - usually best to spec in an M2 for the speed.

- remove Bullguard - Windows comes with Windows Defender - free and just as good. Bullguard and other AVs have been known to cause BSODs

- To be honest, your (friend's) budget is quite low - is £1k their absolute max?

- Why 15.6"? - A lot of the 17.3" laptops now are not a lot more than their 15.6" equivalent so do they definitely only want 15.6"?

- i assume laptop is required for space reasons, as ultimately the battery life on gaming laptops is not that good so I assume its going to be plugged in most / all of the time? - if this is the case, then has your friend considered a desktop?

Thats fine, its just that a desktop is better to upgrade - laptop is £1k spend now, very little upgrade potential regarding CPU and GPU. Re the laptop its spend on the best GPU you can afford and really a game like Red Dead 2 you would want to be spending £1500 upwards on a laptop for a 3060/70, AMD to get the best visual and gameplay performance (in my opinion).

Laptops are not upgradable (much), they have cooling issues when you run them hard for long periods (such as when gaming) and they're more expensive. I would encourage your friend to re-visit their space issues because IMO a laptop is a poor choice here. IMO a laptop only makes esnes where portability is a critical 'must have' issue.

Thanks for your responses. I've since spoken to my friend again and they are adamant that space and portability are the key concerns, despite my championing for a desktop. They have suggested they might be open to spending up to £1,500 but I'm not an expert in this field. I came up with this build but would appreciate any advice on where improvements could be made.
