Hi there! Before we make any recommendations we'll need a bit more info. What's your budget? What games do you plan to play? Do you plan to do anything else with the PC? What Monitor will this be hooked up to (either make and model or resolution and refresh rate would be great!)

I'd imagine the lack of cooler options is due to the 12th gen platform (and therfore mounting holes) being so new PCS doesn't have them yet. I'm sure they will be there in a matter of time

This is one reason I'd hang off recommending 12th gen at the minute, there just aren't enough cooler options available

Hi, I have an AOC 1080p 144hz monitor, cant remember the model number, and an Acer predator XB271HK 4k gsync monitor.

I would rather hang off altogether for the time being than hang off 12th gen processors as by all accounts, the 12600k is a monster for gaming.

I dont really have specific games in mind, I am just a heavy gamer in general. I have annual subs to xbox game pass and origin and about 400 titles on steam.

yeah they seem to be getting some good results, but its early days both for them and W11, and if you can hold off a bit longer the upgrade to the AMD processors is due early in the new year, which whispers suggest will give 12th gen a good broadside

For 4K 60hz, the 3070 would really be the card to go for, the 3080 is really only necessary for high refresh 4K. It's due to come back in mid-december but I've only seen that date be pushed further and further back and I don't think the 3060TI would quite cut it. You do seem to have the budget for the 3080, but it's rather overspecced and not what my primary recommendation would be.

As Martin has said, you could also wait for the Ryzen refresh due early next year which is runoured to retake the lead, but if you wait for the better tech, you'll never buy 😂

Case
COOLERMASTER MASTERBOX TD500 MESH ARGB GAMING CASE
Processor (CPU)
Intel® Core™ i5 10-Core Processor i5-12600K (3.7GHz) 20MB Cache
Motherboard
ASUS® TUF GAMING Z690-PLUS WIFI D4 (LGA1700, USB 3.2, PCIe 5.0) - ARGB Ready All the motherboard the 12600K should need, the TUF is generally a good middle ground
Memory (RAM)
16GB Corsair VENGEANCE RGB PRO DDR4 3200MHz (2 x 8GB) There's not much performance difference between 3200 and 3600 that PCS provides due to the Cas Latency so saved a few £ and gone 3200
Graphics Card
10GB NVIDIA GEFORCE RTX 3080 - HDMI, DP, LHR Again, not what I'd primarily recommend, but you do have the budget
1st M.2 SSD Drive
500GB SAMSUNG 980 PRO M.2, PCIe NVMe (up to 6900MB/R, 5000MB/W) Increased the size of the boot drive by a bit just to make sure you have ample space
1st M.2 SSD Drive
2TB INTEL® 670p M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD (up to 3500MB/sR | 2700MB/sW) Currently game loading times don't improve much once on SSD so buying a super fancy Gen 4 SSD would be a waste of money. The 670p is still a fantastic drive
Power Supply
CORSAIR 850W RMx SERIES™ MODULAR 80 PLUS® GOLD, ULTRA QUIET extra 100W to make sure the 80 gets the power it needs. There is an argument to go 1000W for future upgradability here
Power Cable
1 x 1 Metre UK Power Cable (Kettle Lead)
Processor Cooling
PCS FrostFlow 240 Series ARGB High Performance Liquid Cooler This cooler would handle the 12600K just fine, but if you wanted to wait for Corsair options, I'd stick on a H100i Capellix
Thermal Paste
STANDARD THERMAL PASTE FOR SUFFICIENT COOLING
Sound Card
ONBOARD 6 CHANNEL (5.1) HIGH DEF AUDIO (AS STANDARD)
Network Card
10/100/1000 GIGABIT LAN PORT
USB/Thunderbolt Options
MIN. 2 x USB 3.0 & 2 x USB 2.0 PORTS @ BACK PANEL + MIN. 2 FRONT PORTS

Thank you for the recommendations. Are you saying the 3080 would handle ultra settings on high end AAA games at 4k high refresh? I would have thought I would need the TI for that.

Your monitor is only 60Hz so you can only achieve 60fps, the 3080 is actually overpowered for this.

Unless you're looking to upgrade the monitor?

Yes but on Ultra settings I would assume over 60fps at 4k would be beyond the 3080's capabilities. I.e expecting a 3080 to hit 144 frames on 4k ultra is a bit much, or am i wrong?

Wrong or right, it’s still a bit of a fools errand to go chasing ultra on everything. I’ll link a good thread below, well worth reading and watching the clips…

I think you've misunderstood me. I know the monitor can only do 60fps as that the refresh rate, I just didnt think the 3080 would handle more than that at 4k if I had high or ultra settings on games. I am not really chasing anything more than that and id be surprised if the 3070 could handle 60 fps 4k on high/ultra

This techspot review should give you a pretty good gague. 80FPS in a 14 game average on 4K high seems pretty reasonable to me

The 3070 handles ultrawide 1440p 144Hz at very high settings without breaking sweat on all but the most demanding games. Seeing as your monitor physically can’t go over 60FPS, the extra power that’s being wasted on trying to push frames that aren’t there could be used towards tweaking settings to your liking. The 3070Ti is the absolute most I’d consider for 4K at 60Hz if I was purchasing.
