Standard Ryzen CPU Cooling

Hi Everyone!

Just ordered my first build and wondering how I will handle being a kid waiting for Christmas for the next 6 weeks or so before it possibly shows up!

One quick query I do have though:

I have ordered the Ryzen 7 3700X - when purchased separately this would be bundled with the Wraith Prism RGB CPU cooler as standard, so I selected the standard CPU cooler option assuming this is what I will get.

However now I’m not sure if that’s the case? Anyone have any idea? Will I have to amend my order if want more than the most basic little CPU heat sink and fan?

Thanks!!

I would strongly recommend getting advice on your build as a whole.

can you post your full specs from the order page?

Spydertracks, that could be a record for the most rapid response to a forum post!

Full spec below. My requirement is primarily for photo editing hence the 32GB RAM. No video editing. Possibly some mild gaming but nothing serious and no desire for maxing out FPS in anything I might mess with.

This build is over my intended budget really but I’ve gone eight core for a little more future proofing maybe. Storage needs a quick SSD for OS and programs - cheap and slow M.2 option is still a few times quicker than basic SSD, so it fits my budget. Separate SSD for photo catalogs and scratch disk and cheap old fashioned HDD for original files.

That’s my thoughts anyway. Opinions very welcome!!

Sorry - cooler above was changed to standard - not the Frostflow 80 shown....
Could you include the link which would have been at the bottom of those specs.

How much are you looking to spend? There's a few tweaks we can make which will make that system run much smoother :)

With a Ryzen 7, you ideally want a 240mm AIO like coolermasters one, especially with that case.

Case selection is not the best at the moment, but i would recommend a better one.

Sure!

I'm looking to spend less than I have! :) About 1000 euro was the plan. I've convinced myself to spend a little more than that, but I definitely can not go higher.

Photo editing - photoshop/lightroom - are my primary stressors - I have no plan to burn up Graphics cards or CPU's with intense gaming or anything. I play Assetto Corsa and Elite Dangerous sometimes - both of which run acceptably to me on my existing 2 core ancient i3 and 1GB HD7750 GPU, so anything better will be like real life!

Given your budget. I would consider a 6core CPU rather than 8. To keep the 8 core you'll have to spend a bit more on cooling (case and fan) to keep up with it.

The 3600 will be fine with the standard cooler. You also want faster ram with Amd Processors so changed that to 3200mhz. The larger PSU will help it run cooler and also give you the room to upgrade the GPU in the future if you felt the need to.

I'm assuming you have you own windows 10 licence already?

Maybe drop the PSU say down to 650 as the 1050Ti doesn't need anywhere near that 850

Great guys thanks a mill....stuff to think about there.

My original build was showing a max of 262W I think. Of course you are right that a bigger PSU than required will help with cooling - I didn't really factor that in there. 850W does seem quite a bit bigger though.....

I sat on the fence between the 6 and 8 cores for weeks - Lightroom will use up to 6 cores but not any more than that. I was thinking 8 cores would give me room for any other stuff that I might have going on in the background without ocassionally maxing out the CPU? Thoughts?

I am worried about a 256GB OS drive. That is what I currently have and have just 60GB free at the mo with a handful of games stuffed in there too. I feel 500 ish is the min I'd need...

Could you tell me the benefits of the B550 mobo over the 450 model also? I guess there is some future proofing in there??

Just looking at the H500 case there - I chose the other one as it was substantially smaller.

Lookit, I just want to have my cake and eat it. Why is that so hard? :) I want a hugely powerful CPU, 1TB of RAM, all in a shoebox please.....

Slow roasted CPUwith gently pan fried GPU on the side

The 850w was more because it was the cheapest fully modular PSU going. 650/750w would be fine :)

A lot of the choices come down to budget. PC component prices are high at the moment due to COVID and demand so compromises have to be made, especially when making a balanced system which will get the most out of your budget.

Yes very true Resistance100. If money was no object this would be a lot easier.

A bigger case with better airflow would be a good change to start with for me I think.

Anyone have any thoughts on B550 vs B450 mobo? I don't see any need to exceed 64GB RAM in the future and 3200MHz should also be plenty for the life of this build I would feel. Is there any other elements I am missing?

I had originally picked the Ryzen 5 3600XT over the Ryzen 7 3700X but pushed myself into the 8 core option even though it is slower. Would having a little more CPU than I probably need also help with cooling? Much like the PSU thought process??

Good call working on those lines
