Standard Ryzen CPU Cooling

The BeQuiet Shadow Rock isn't a cheap tower cooler though. By the time you purchase that at £35, you're as well spending the other £14 and getting a proper decent cooler.

I think you would probably be better to upgrade your current system for now :)
The price wasn’t the point at all Scott.

But yes perhaps you’re right on my current system. 🤦‍♂️🙂

You referred to it as cheap, I was just saying it wasn't cheap.

However, I think I've said all I can on your build. I wish you best of luck with it all :)

You would want the 5600X for photoshop etc :)
Goddamit I hate you alll!!!!!:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

The 5600X just came back in stock and I've only just gone and used my Credit Card to Amend my order - AGAIN! GRRRR!!!

Seriously though - I hope I haven't come across as argumentative here - all the advice from all the long-timers here is much appreciated - it really great to have such a wealth of useful info and experience. How much my order has changed from my first time - before I asked anyone here - is testament to that.

All I can say is - it better be worth it!!! Oh sorry - I have to go - the bank is ringing......

Just a quick one here - I believe some version of this card - namely the two fans versions - come with a 6 pin power plug - even though they can also run happily on power from the PCIe slot.

If this is the case, is there any advantage in using the PSU direct supply over the PCIe power? With modern mobos I can't imagine it would be hurting the board to have it supply the card itself? It would be a neater build that way I guess too....

Dear 4PG members: (Pleasant, Patient, Peer-Pressure Group)

I've just trimmed back my RAM speed to 3000MHz to allow me upgrade the PSU to a TXm - it's all I can do budget wise without giving up on the functional fundamentals. I even got rid of the cable management to save 3 quid! I'm so pathetic!

My thinking:

RAM will be the simplest upgrade down the road if I decide it's worth it. I know the Ryzens love 3200MHx but it doesn't seem there will too dramatic a performance difference at 3000MHz for what I need it for. It's quantity rather than speed to some extent for PS and LR.

The TXm is no RM - but it's better than the CV series - and I will get proper DC to DC conversion on the 3.3V and 5V rails too with a more efficient and quieter unit. I know it's not fully modular - but that doesn't really bother me - my last PSU change on my current crummy box required everything to come out - mobo and all - so I'm not bothered by spending a half day changing it out down the road if it comes to that - in fact I'd probably enjoy it.....

Thoughts please???!!!???!!!

if it has power connectors on the card to be fed from the PSU then use them, the connectors required will be on the PSU
Thanks MartinR - I don't know which version PCS will provide - but I imagine they will plug it in if it's an option anyway.....

It won't take half a day to change a PSU if it came to it....in October, my TxM needed replacing and it took no time at all...it actually took longer trying to replicate the PCS Builder's superb cable management...and failing abysmally :ROFLMAO:

Whilst the TxM is a different model to the TxMs that have had troubles the last year (the 550W ones), I honestly am hesitant to recommend that level of PSU until it is shown that there are no further issues. Personally, if it was me, I would spend the extra £9 and get the 850W RM model (ideally the RMx but it's a fair compromise)
OK - I’ll look at it again.....thanks!

The RM850 is another 30+ euro to change to from the TXm. I just can’t manage that without my Financial Controller leaving my bags on the front lawn. I’ll see what else I might give up. Maybe back to 16GB RAM and add another stick in a few months perhaps?

if you drop back to 16GB, configure it as 2*8

Yeah - just realise that's actually the only choice which isn't ideal - I was hoping I could just add a single 16GB stick down the road - but if I have 2 x 8GB I don't really want 4 x 8GB to get to 32GB - so I'd have to replace the whole lot if I want 2 x 16GB.

Sigh.

The RM version shouldn't be that much...I checked and the price increase was £9 which I guess would be about 12 Euros maybe? I think you are looking at the RMx one
Double checked there and amending my order adds €31 for RM??

Thanks! I found some threads in the 650 rather than the 550 I thought. I’ll search again - might have overlooked them.....

Right I’ve had a good read through about as much info as I can take in a single sitting and I think I’m happy with the TXm. It makes it onto the top tier or second tier of the majority of quality lists I can find with one or two listing the 550/650 W versions specifically in a similar spot to the RM.

In all cases it’s only the 2017 onwards version that is to be considered - Gold efficiency rated than the older and more nuisance Bronze one.

I found just one or two threads here referring to issues with TXm PSU’s but I could also find threads all over the planet complaining about failures of almost any PSU you care to think of - CV, TX, AX, RMx, RM - from bottom rung Wattage to the highest rated and best available. I guess some stuff will always fail - Corsair are popular and the more in circulation I guess the more you’ll see even if the % is low? No reports I could find of damaged components at least.....inside or outside the PC Case - which is the most important thing.

I’ve pressed Amend four times now - proof that I should have come here and asked for advice before I ever ordered in the first place. But at the same time I think I am addicted at this stage. What to fiddle with next??

.....and incidentally CV series makes it into bottom tier or second from bottom on all lists - exactly as suggested here... 👍
