You have a second chance (kinda!), as the top 50 most played Next Fest games have been highlighted and most of the demos are still up despite the event ending.

This is one of the go-to guys when it comes to indie games. With October's Steam Next Fest happening next week, I'll be playing a few of these games. There's going to be over 3,000 games showcased, pretty much all of them with demos. It's going to be carnage trying to play as many as I can!

A demo for @SpyderTracks to play at some point next week...

While I do enjoy making stuff blow up, especially enemies (thanks Doom!), I've found that I've been really getting into cozy and wholesome games over the last year or so. My most anticipated wholesome game for the rest of 2024 is Trash Goblin. It places you in a shop where you are buying, cleaning and selling various trinkets. It's got quite a simple yet satisfying gameplay loop and is out next month.

They've got a new Next Fest demo, so I'm sticking it here. Might be worth a try if the game idea is of any interest at all!

The movement in Luna Abyss feels a touch sluggish for what's supposed to be a bullet hell game, but there's some positive signs having played the demo. I'll be keeping an eye on this one!

Oooo, that looks really interested, have added that to wishlist, love the art direction, and looks quite a dark storyline, right up my street (y)

Karate Survivor is an unusual take on the Vampire Survivors Action Roguelike. The main character looks about as much like Jackie Chan as you can probably get away with without lawsuits being filed. The game is another I've got my eye on!

Black Myth: Wukong has grabbed a lot of people's attentions this year. Echoes of Yi: Samsara has a similar vibe and is likely to do the same thing when it releases, probably next year.

There's something so enticing about Japanese folklore!

This and Black Myth: Wukong are Chinese, but I definitely agree that these kinds of games are definitely enticing. More Japanese and Chinese folklore-inspired games can only be a good thing!
Whoops, should have said “eastern” rather than Japanese!

Ive always been fascinated with Far Eastern ancient culture, and from Manga through to musical influences through to gaming, it all hits a spot that few other styles reach.

Spy Drops is highly influenced by Metal Gear Solid. The game isn't quite as polished at this stage of development, but is still a lot of fun and I'll be keeping an eye on this one.

Management sims will always grab my attention. Ale Abbey seems like a fun one as it involves running a monastery which makes beer. There seems to be a bit of depth to the actual brewing with balancing ingredients to make the best beers you can. Enjoyed the demo and will be keeping an eye on this one too!

The Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles (always made made laugh that ninjas were seen as too violent for UK kids) were a big part of my childhood and there have been a few TMNT games released recently. Shredder's Revenge is sensational and the upcoming Splintered Fate seems to be more of the same. Sign me up!

The Edge of Allegoria is heavily inspired by the earlier Pokemon games, but in the words of the devs themselves "This ain't no f@#%ing kid's game". The game is swearier than I imagined. I'm all for it!

Pokemon Blue was one of the last Game Boy games I bought and this very much reminds me of it. I'm working my way through some more demos this evening before the event finishes tomorrow. I've no idea how many games I've actually tried this week, but I've liked about 50 of them enough to add them to my wishlist. You can see a few of them in this thread!
