Stock on pre-production order

I ordered a new desktop build on the 22nd May, and currently in the 13th working day in pre-production.

I've ready elsewhere on the forum that the 750W RMx PSU's are out of stock, so I've bumped my order up to a 1000W RMx. Is there a simple way on the site to see which parts of my in progress order are in stock and which are out?

And when my order is ready to build, will I have a chance of amending my order back to 750W if it's back in stock? I feel a bit uncomfortable at having a 1000W PSU and I'm not sure why - it's a very big number and feels silly!

I believe (somebody will have to confirm) that the stock is allocated to your build as soon as your payment is processed. So as long as the part is/was available at the time of order, you don't need to change anything, even if it is showing as out of stock for new builds today.

I think I have that right.

Haha, I've been making loads of amendments and not checking the stock levels - whoops! :)

if it is out of stock when you make the ammendment it would be pretty obvious. it is usually greyed out and if not, you'll get a message before payment saying it is out of stock.

And don't worry about 1000w, an over specced PSU is infinitely better than an under powered one, it will run more efficiently (saving money, very small amounts, but hey) and quieter, just because it can create a 1000w, doesn't mean it is all the time ;)

Ah cool. I checked the 850W one and it said it was in stock, so I've switched it to that - a little extra headroom would be good.

You lucky man, this last week I have been checking daily for any of the RMx Power Supplies and there hasn't been a single one in stock (even if showing available on the build "plan" options. I have tried all 3 of the RMx PSUs - (750, 850 and 1000) and the RM750 too. All are now out of stock with lead times as far out as mid-August....

I'm afraid to say i've sold you a lemon here. From a conversation I had this morning, stock isn't allocated until the build. My apologies for the confusion, I am sure I read otherwise somewhere on the forum.

TBH none of us know for sure how PCS allocate stock nor when, since we don't work for PCS.

It's possible that under normal circumstances, when deliveries ensure that shelves never become empty, PCS do 'allocate' (though not pick) parts for each build as orders are received, but I think it wise to assume that parts are not picked until your order is about to go into build at the moment. Stock supply chains are so unpredictable at the moment I don't see how PCS could do anything else?

Agreed but i did feel somewhat guilty about misinforming a forum member!

If the alternatives for major components (eg Processor, Graphics, memory, storage) are unacceptable can you cancel your order? You may want to change your order to a company that has stock components available ..

You can cancel your order anytime up until 14 days after it's received, same as any internet purchase, standard buyer protection.
