Struggling to get good FPS on World of Warcraft

Hi guys,

I've had this gaming laptop for 9 months and it's been great. I can typically play everything on maximum graphics settings (Doom, WoW classic, Among us lol). I've been playing retail world of warcraft (Shadowlands) recently and my laptop is really struggling and I don't really know why. I'm sure when I first received it I could play retail WoW on maximum graphics settings and something has gone awry since then. Currently, I have to drop the settings to 2/10 to get >45 FPS and on ultra I'm getting 15 FPS.

16GB ram
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650
500 GB SSD

My brother has a laptop from here as well with lower specs (Intel i5, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050, not sure about ram and SSD) and he can play WoW getting 45 FPS at maximum graphics settings. I don't understand whats going on.

Any tips? I've updated my graphics card but no luck. I've also double-checked that WoW is running the NVIDIA (Driver 2) GPU instead of the Intel one that is also installed (Driver 1). Confusing stuff

Yeah I have, I've actually just been troubleshooting this issue and there was one graphics setting in particular that was absolutely draining my GPU. It was resolution scaling I had at max (200 %) and if I dropped it down to 120% I couldn't detect any difference in quality, yet the FPS shot up from 18 to 75!

All sorted now but thanks for the reply!

You were trying to play the game at 8K !! Glad its sorted!
