So my laptop I brought 5 yrs ago, am keyworker so really need to use the laptop (teacher) and found that the laptop sounds like it’s going to take off. Every now and again it will turn off and ask to insert boot drive or it will keep asking for this.
I went into bios to locate the drive but can’t see it, only Realtek. The hdd security config states Samsung hdd and Kingston sm2 but I can’t locate the drive. The laptop now stays in bios.
can anyone help?

thank you, wow I wouldnt know where to start. I have two hard drives on there so are they both gone?
Unlikely. From your symptoms it's the drive with Windows installed on it.

If you've had it for 5 years have you ever cleaned it? Laptops need a good clean at least every year, more often in dusty environments. You should open it up and using a soft brush and a can of low pressure compressed air (made for cleaning computers) tease and blow away all the dust and muck you can see. Pay particular attention to the fan blades and the finned heat exchanger right next to the fan. This is where all the cooling is done and you need a good airflow through there. They are a magnet for dust and muck which blocks the airflow and overheats the laptop.

If it's been overheating - and the 'sounds like it's going to take off' could be the fan desperately trying to cool it - then it may already be too late and you may have permanently damaged components.

I would suggest that you open it up and clean it thoroughly. Then see whether it boots. If it does then download HWMonitor (free) and post a screenshot of that both when the laptop is idle and when it's working hard so we can see what your temperatures look like. If it's been running hot for some time then the thermal paste under the CPU/GPU may need replacing.
