Student Engineering Desktop

Hi, I’m an engineering student in the UK and need a desktop to use for Autocad, Revit, Fusion 360, Solidworks and Matlab. The PC will never be used for gaming. I want a quiet system but I'm not sure if the extra cost of the CORSAIR 5000D AIRFLOW or the FRACTAL DEFINE 7 BLACK QUIET cases are worth it, how much quieter would they be? Is the CPU cooler I've chosen quiet enough, I read this one is quiet - 'be quiet! Pure Rock 2 - Quiet Air Cooler' but PCS don't have it as an option. Does the motherboard I have chosen support two M.2 PCIe 4.0 drives? (I know the drive I have chosen is only PCIe 3), I looked on the ASUS site but I don't understand it, also it only seems to have one M.2 heatsink.

I'll be getting this RAM from elsewhere – ‘CORSAIR – D4 D 3600 32G 2X16 KIT VENG LPX BLK AMD CAS latency: 18’, even though it's currently £209, I have a balance to use up on another site.

You'll need a much better GPU for the likes of Revit mate, also that cooler isn't really up to the job of keeping that 5800x cool which is one of the hottest running chips on the market

I'll try to throw something together here but your budget is very very restrictive

This is where I'd be going if I was in your shoes mate, Ideally I would want two storage drives one for the OS and one for programs/ I'd probably want an RTX Quadro 4000 too but it pushes the budget significantly

Does a 5600X run cooler than the 5800X? I'll only be using Revit for student work not complex professional stuff.

Solid works can get a bit hairy on the GPU too mate and yes the 5600x runs significantly cooler but the 5800x is a much better option for this kind of work

You could probably get away with a Quadro T1000 or a 1660 if you needed to save on the GPU

I'm personally not sure the 1050Ti is a good pick for this

If you're on a strict budget this would be an ok option. It would do the job admirably but it's not optimal

Which is the best quiet non-gaming case to have? Main components are below:

Processor: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X Eight Core CPU
Processor Cooling: CoolerMaster Hyper 212 (120mm) Fan CPU Cooler Black Edition
MB: ASUS TUF X570-PLUS GAMING or ASUS® ROG STRIX X570-F GAMING
Power Supply: CORSAIR 750W RMx SERIES
GC: PNY NVIDIA T600 - 4GB GDDR6, 640 CUDA Cores - 4 x mDP
SSD: 1TB SAMSUNG 970 EVO PLUS M.2, PCIe NVMe

Thanks for your help

Please post the complete spec along with the unique configuration link. We need to consider the build as a whole, rather than give advice on individual parts. What will you be using the PC for and what is your budget? Air cooling won’t be sufficient for the 5800x, especially in a quiet case.

Used for Autocad, Revit, Fusion 360, Solidworks and Matlab, for basic engineering student work. Will never be used for gaming. I've read that processor air cooling only creates more noise than AIO, when doing high load tasks such as video editing and gaming which I won't be. Also air cooling has more longevity than AIO.

Is the ASUS® ROG STRIX X570-F GAMING worth the extra £60 over ASUS® TUF X570-PLUS GAMING ?

Which is the better quiet case:
CORSAIR 5000D AIRFLOW TEMPERED GLASS GAMING CASE
FRACTAL DEFINE 7 BLACK QUIET MID-TOWER CASE - I read that this case needs the front door open to create sufficient airflow.
NZXT H511 MID-TOWER GAMING CASE (BLACK)

CORSAIR 5000D AIRFLOW TEMPERED GLASS GAMING CASE

AMD Ryzen 7 5800X Eight Core CPU (3.8GHz-4.7GHz/36MB CACHE/AM4)

With the 5800x you really need an AIO, as it runs hot. I don’t think you can order a system without RAM. You will need to select one stick of the slowest, cheapest RAM so that it can at least be tested. I see you have now removed Windows. Make sure you get if from a random site. If it seems too good to be true (much cheaper than you can get here) it will be and you could end up with an illegal version of Windows

Would a Ryzen 3900X or 5800X be the most suitable for using the following software Autocad, Revit, Fusion 360, Solidworks and Matlab. The PC will never be used for gaming.

Also, what would be the best 24" 1080p or 27" QHD non-gaming IPS monitor?

Thanks

None of the 3000 series would be recommended any more really, the 5000 series made such marked improvements as its an entirely different node, so both single threaded and multithreaded are hugely improved.

In the Desktop custom configurator it has the 4GB GEFORCE GTX 1650 graphics card but which version is it the GDDR5 or GDDR6?

Thank you

It's usually either Palit or Zotac, but could be any model. If you want a specific card then you pay the extra for the Asus cards, or source your own.
