Suggestions

Hey! I’ve been console gaming for a long time but completely new to PC gaming. Wanted to get a gaming PC for so long, and I’m finally taking the leap. Just looking for any tips or suggestions. Obviously this is quite pricey and I’m willing to pay it if this is what I need but if there are any suggestions for reducing the total I’m all ears! If not, I’d just like to confirm this is a good setup for the £1400 I’m thinking of paying for it. (I realise £1400 is nothing compared to what it’s possible to spend on a build 😂 but I’m not looking for the best of the best, just good performance and as future proof as possible)
This is the build I’m looking at -

Corsair iCUE 220T RGB Airflow, Tempered Glass Mid-Tower ATX Smart Gaming Case

I'd advise against it, and suggest you have a read of this especially the section on AMD v intel

My apologies, I should of looked at this before posting! I’ll mainly just use it for standard gaming but I would like to have the option to get VR in the future. Not a must for me though.
The monitor I’m looking at is the AOC Gaming 27G2U - 27 Inch FHD Monitor,144Hz,1ms, IPS, AMD FreeSync.
If I swapped to the AMD Ryzen 5600x would that improve the build? I’ve copied the specs below -

Processor (CPU)
AMD Ryzen 5 5600X Six Core CPU (3.7GHz-4.6GHz/35MB CACHE/AM4)
Motherboard
ASUS® ROG STRIX X570-I GAMING (DDR4, USB 3.2, Wi-Fi) - ARGB Ready!

You seem to have been on the small form factor configurator there. Not great as it severely limits your options. You mentioned £1400 at the start of the thread, assuming there’s a little bit of wiggle room there I’d suggest this as a top end 1080p system…

Thanks for the recommendation, much appreciated! Couple of questions - I notice you’ve chosen two SSD drives, may I ask why? Also, the CPU cooler and the case? I know the case isn’t all that important but have you selected that one because it’s the default or is it a superior case to the Corsair one I chose? And is the PCS cooler not quite up to the task for this setup?

The case is vitally important to a build, if you choose a case with poor airflow you get a buildup of heat amongst all those lovely expensive components and that leads to thermal throttling. The iCue 220T is a fine case (I owned it myself) but as it’s on the smaller side, it’s a nightmare to live with if you ever need to get inside it and fiddle about.

The 212 has a proven track record of being a good, long lasting fan cooler. The Frostflow models aren’t as highly regarded.

And as for the two drives, the logic is to have your OS and programs on the 500GB gen 4 drive so you’ve got an ultrafast boot time and snappy response. The 1TB drive is for your games library.

I see! Thanks so much for your help, it’s really appreciated. I see the importance of a case, I’ll go with the one you recommend! And same for the CPU cooler too. In terms of the SSD, I already have a 6TB external HD, if I store my games on that would I be able to just get the one fast SSD? Or would that compromise the performance?

You wouldn't use an external HDD for any programs or games, it would be far too slow and performance would be dreadful, external drives are only useful for storage really.

Thanks guys! I’ve tweaked it a little -

I know I only have the one 1TB SSD there, but as I have an external HDD I’m thinking I can just make sure current games are on the SSD and use the external for storage and games I’m not currently playing?
