Switch 3080 to 3090 for a faster build?

It was 45 working days when it went into building then despatched the following day (today)
Day 68 now - have caved and upgraded from the 3080 strix to the 3090 as was told that would be quicker. Been waiting long enough to save the extra money and its overkill but my patience (and old pc) have given out. Let's hope it does actually improve the order time

The configurator goes for the minimum needed for a build and while it is not wrong, can be a false economy.
698 W would mean a 750 W PSU running at 93% under full load. Running anything at 90+% of capacity will shorten its life. A bigger PSU should last longer plus leaves room for future upgrades.

Switched my 3080 order to 3090 yesterday. Had only been waiting for 8 working days but after finding out I'm not going back to work until May (at the earliest) I figured I'd upgrade on the off-chance it comes earlier.

I am on 3080 + 5950x, considering switching to 3090 as the wait times for the 3080 seem to be 90 days +. I've only been waiting 8 working days so far though. Anyone know how much switching will reduce the wait time by?
Other option is the 6900, PCS told me the waiting times were much shorter.

I would like to but I use CUDA for work so I need a nvidia card. I think I'll call them up today to ask them about switching, see how worth it it would be

If your build has been dispatched, how long did it take?
Same as RTX 3080, I believe many people are still waiting for RTX 3090's restock.
I hope this thread will give a general idea of the time frame with 3090.
Currently, I am on the 41st day of pre-production.

I am on day 36, changed to 3090 today from the 3080. Was chatting with support, there is a backlog of 1700+ 3080 and 160 waiting for the 3090.
They said I can expect to wait another 1-2 months.

Mine went into build yesterday, on day 37, 3090 with 5800x. The original order was for the 3080 but upgraded to the 3090 on day 36. In QC & Testing now.
Hopefully, for the rest of you, they received a large batch of GPU's yesterday. When I contacted them before changing the order the only thing they had in stock was the strix 3090. They also told me there was 160+ in the queue for the 3090 so not sure how mine is getting built. Not complaining though

I think I read it goes on main order submission date. ie. I ordered mine in Spain (3090 with 5950X), so the situation might be a bit different, but I hope to get it before summer
Anyway, enjoy your new PC!
