The Beast

Hi all,

I am looking for a couple of recommendations.
I have this spec and it is a beast, but I would like to check a few things with some people who know their stuff.

1. Ideally I would like 256gb of ram, but I can't see how to achieve that with the mobo's or RAM options on the site. (If it means I have to have slower RAM then 128 would work).
2. Ideally I want double spaced pci slots so I can fit 4 2080ti's in, 2 for now, then 2 later. Is this possible, and if so what are the implications regarding cooling? What do I need to do? (Case, Fans etc). I would up the PSU, if this is possible.
3. This machine is going to be on a lot of the time so any better case recommendations to facilitate excellent cooling?

Thanks for your time, specs below. I need to get this order in before the end of Jan!!

You could buy it with minimum memory and add the 8 x 32GB yourself. Wouldn't cost much more. You need to change Windows 10 to the PRO version as home doesn't support 256GB.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the feedback.

Handy to know about win10 pro and ram.

I am going to be using it for a Houdini workstation, so I need lots of ram and lots of cores for particle sims.
The GPUs will sometimes be used for rendering depending on app. and sometimes cross CPU/GPU rendering.
The ryzen threadrippers are what FX Artists are going for currently & The bang for buck makes the GeForce a no brainer.
So it's really down to making sure the cooling and case options are at least not going to be problematic with it running for 48 hours hot.
I can live without the 4 gpus, for now if there are no mobos that support 4.

Thanks for your time.

You may not find a mobo that supports 4 GPUs all slotted in, but perhaps certain cases will let you add additional GPUs mounted elsewhere and connected with riser cables.

Probably damn large and expensive cases - maybe that £400 Cosmos one - it certainly has a vertical mount in addition to the usual PCIe expansion slots. Perhaps give PCS a call to discuss in person, as it's not something most of us will be familiar with

It looks like both the Gigabyte board and the Asus Zenith would let you fit three GPUs directly(?).
