Cheers for the reply.

here is the updated version with the suggested changes.
I went with the P44Pro as it seemed to offer best speed/ capacity price ratio and it was going to be my Windows drive.
It’s gone a bit over budget now it’s over £1400, but I did save myself a wad by sticking with my 3070ti for now
cheers

Looks good. The comments on the motherboard and storage still apply, but otherwise it's just about right on the money for me :)

If you have aspirations of upgrading the GPU to the likes of the 4080 (or that level of card), it would be worthwhile opting for the 1000w PSU. It's not a lot of difference in price but it'll make a huge difference in hassle if you overshoot the capacity down the line with a GPU upgrade. There's no difference to your power consumption, and in fact can actually be more economical as the efficiency line shifts by percentage rather than power draw.

Hi Scott
My new machine arrived earlier and I love it.
The 7800X3D is so much better than my old 8600.

I notice that fast boot is off in this system whereas all my previous PCS computers had it on.
I read around the net about it and there seems to be a split decision on the subject. Any advice?

Also the icue lights stuff is just awesome and the LCD head is exquisite- I kind of wish the PC was on display now

Finally, the new system is whisper quiet except when my old 3070ti kicks in - it must have the noisiest fans ever.
I will admit I’m tempted to get a 7900XT or XTX because of it.

Oh, and I can’t be arsed to cancel it to change the RAM now - it’s excellent as it is

You can set a custom fan curve to optimise noise vs performance
I tried that - it just seems to be a hot running card. I’ve tried under-clocking it and playing with the curve but it just runs hot - but it’s not a PCS supplied card so it’s best not to talk about it, so I’ve been thinking about changing through the PCS upgrade system to something less annoyingly loud. The NVIDIA cards don’t seem to represent such good value for money hence I’ve been looking at the Radeons

What do you mean hot? Cpu temps qnd gpu temps qre very different. Gpus have a target temp that they're designed to run at.

It's probably a bit of a grey area but I can't see helping to trouble shoot a GPU in a PCS system being outwith the rules. You're a bonified PCS customer looking for support so I would be happy to help out unless told otherwise, but I can't see the PCS admin having any reason against.

The system will be fairly silent until the GPU kicks in so it may well be the contrast that you're noticing and it may be typical for what you have, but if you want to post up the GPU temps after some gaming & use we can have a check to see if all is OK.

A good option is the 3DMark Firestrike Extreme stress test (or Timespy). This will put a reasonable strain onto the GPU and allow you to share the result so that we can look at graphs etc.

I would fully agree, I'd be very happy to support your own GPU, PCS make it an option in the configurator, so they're totally open to people supplying their own.

Ok ta.

I’ll take a look at the temps and post them up tomorrow.
I could probably do it a lazy way and read it off of the Corsair LCD pump cap whilst running Cyberpunk, 6d Falluj or Ark etc, although it gives an option of GPU 1 and GPU 2.
I’m not sure if I mentioned it before the the Palit Gaming Pro is known to be a loud card.
I assume I just use Thundermaster to adjust the curve like I did before unless Afterburner is better?
Finally, I’m glad I followed the advice on the build I was given as it’s really a great build - cheers

I just assume loud meant hot, especially as no matter how I set the curve it would always end up at 100% constantly whilst gaming. Perhaps that’s the way it’s meant to be

100% fans while gaming is likely unusual. 100% usage while gaming is perfectly fine, it means it's doing what it's meant to be doing :)

3DMark with a Direct X 12 stress test would be the best way for me to easily assess. You just run it, walk away, come back and share the link. Job done.

Otherwise you'll want to install HWMonitor and have that open while gaming and doing various tasks, then share screenshots of the resulting temps etc.

Here is my result

Looking at the results it’s a pity that fan duty isn’t recorded.

The max GPU temp was 71.5
Max CPU temp was 77 which was during the CPU test

Yeah, 100% for 90 was my target previously. It never got to it.

The only thing I would say is that you ran a benchmark rather than the stability test. You want to run the stability test and pass that, that will more accurately simulate a gaming session.... rather than just a one off.

It should load up your entire system introducing heat into the case etc and giving a closer situation to what extended use would be like :)

Ah, ok. When I get home from work I’ll have a look and see if the free 3dmark version I have had a stress test option
