Thermals: 17.3" Vyper vs 17.3" Optimus (Normal or Pro) XI

Hello all,

Does anybody have any thermals for the Vyper and Optimus XI? Wondering how big a difference their respective chassis make.

Cheers.

I can give you some sort of shady thermals of the Optimux XI pro, because based on myself and two other users have mentioned here and on reddit, we've all got the same issue in which the fans aren't ramping up under cpu load or temperature. Whether this is happening to all the laptops or just our unlucky selves is unknown. Specs of laptop in my signature.

CPU thermals

CPU IDLE - 46 degrees
GPU IDLE - 39 degrees

OCCT Stress test
cpu 100% load - 93 degrees (no fans ramping up
Cpu 100% load - 80 degrees (fans manually turned on to FULL TURBO)

Video games
Mordhau on ultra the cpu would reach 90-94 degrees. When turbo activated it reached 64 degrees. MSI says cpu load was around 48%.
Alien Isolation around 80 degrees (without turbo, unknown cpu load)

Didn't really measure gpu temps but it was usually 1-2 degrees below or above in video games (without turbo boost on)

I'm interested to see the thermals on the Vyper, I wonder if I should have ordered that instead with a 2080 for longevity.

I guess it would be pretty same to be honest we cannot expect those running cool all of them slim chassis will be in 90s when under full load, no undervolting on 10th generation cpu and thin chassis , we would really have to see there has been review of new msi gs66 i think it was while ago, and thermals were in late 90s. I am very interested to see vyper and also other chassis with 10th gen inside how it will perfom.

Wait there's no undervolting on 10th Gen cpu's. Don't Intel's run hot?

Need more AMD laptops to be honest.

This is my bios for my PCSPECIALIST 2020 i7 10750h,

Even though XTU interface is enabled, it still doesn't allow you to decrease in the application.
However you can do it manually in the bios but only goes in increments of 1. so from 0 to -1. I don't know if it's mV or V. I also wouldn't know what to do if it crashed and wouldn't load up again.

PCS has allowed undervolting on their 10th gen intel cpus, i made a post about it. cant find the llink rn but you can see it on the forums here

you cannot just guess that. the vyper is not teh same laptop and will likely have better cooling given the price difference.
Look for cooling on this: TongFang GM5MP0Y if you want to know what its like.

I just compared my guess to what i seen from reviews and tests from msi gs66 with 8 core cpu 10th, and it was thermal throttling, usually msi has very good cooling, no matter what, in thin cases with 8 core cpu from intel even with 9th gen you will be in high 90s° unless you using liquid metal. Its not a fault of the chasis but its chips, you have to remember that. Regarding undervolt on 10th gen yep I have seen a few people were able to do it in bios via different oem companies

for the same chip vyper will be cooler than optimus. its a premium prodcut thats why.
let the mods chip in on this tbh, i wouldnt know for sure and if i'm not wrong you wouldn't either.

From what I understand, the Vyper 17 is the same chassis as the Eluktronics Max-17, and there are plenty of reviews out for that. Everything I've read/watched said the cooling is pretty great on that. One of the reasons I have a brand-new Vyper 17 arriving tomorrow. :)
please share the thermals. what were your specs btw?

Oh, that is very nice to hear. Please could you do a quick review of the thermals and the performance in some games.
Hope you enjoy your new laptop.

Yeah, please share thermals and general impressions if you don't mind Ambassador Spock. You might be the first one on here to receive it!

Unfortunately my gaming is limited to games like Eve Online, Skyrim, Civilization, etc. Nothing that would really tax the system in any way...

Run the time spy test and fire strike test, I think they load everything pretty decently. @ubuysa mifht have a more comprehensive list on what to use to benchmark and stress a computer

Thermal tests are available online for the Eluktronics Max-17 and it's quite hot under load. As expected it reaches 90+
I think it's simply impossible to have a 20mm laptop with a cooling system capable of cooling 8 cores properly.
Except the AmD Renoir
