Overspeced I know!

Comments for background: not ordered Monitor as looking for 4k 3840 x 2160 which PCS. PCS do 2, 1 Out of Stock, one with poor reviews so will check outside.

Storage: already have 3Tb of storage on current machine and this is 90% full. Want faster storage too. Will use 2nd M2 for storage as well as partioned off half of M2 # 1 for Documents. Large HDD is for an internal "back-up" against problems with failure of any individual part.

Not going to use machine for games yet but might do in coming years when I have fully retired!

Corsair RM 750 PSU is delayed but orderable. The Corsair H115i PRO Cooler is the only Corsair available until you get to the HX1200 at nearly twice the price.

Any thoughts?

No backup drive should be a fast M2 variant. Mechanical drives are fine, cloud storage would be ideal. To spend almost a grand on a couple of M2 drives at this level of performance is just incredibly extreme.

The H115i Pro wouldn't be recommended, the H115i RGB platinum is the one you want.

The TXm PSUs would be more than fine. They are good PSUs and just a tiny fraction noisier than the RMx equivalent.

Just read a post on Tom's Hardware and another which say - to use the vernacular - don't touch the RM 750. Poor components, outdated and prone to failing. Other suggestions?

I suppose wild does describe it but I can be a bit wild at times when I'm in the mood! ;-)

Re. 2 of the suggestions, thanks very much indeed but there were other reasons that I HAD gone for the ones I HAD. Re the PSU, the model that is going to back in stock on the 28th is the RM750 not the RMi750, and the former is the one there is a fair bit of bad press about which I read after sending this post here..

I'll probably go for the TXm 750.

Re. the Cooler, after effectiveness the most important thing is quietness while RGB facility is not of particular interest as such. The Pro specifically mentions "Ultra Quiet Fans" while the RGB version doesn't "sell itself" on low noise. I'll be honest I am not sure what difference there is between them other than the noise level and RGB facility! Coolers are a blind spot for me.

Re the backup drive, sorry I was unclear. The 1st M2 is for Op System and other programs and part for documents. The 2nd M2 is for video and photo storage. The SSD is a scratch file to dump stuff that needs going through in due course. The HDD is for the "internal backup". I'll have an external 6Tb drive for true back up. HDDs are so cheap now that's not an extravagance.

So it looks like the RGB version is the only option unless I go for the Noctua which has been very very positively reviewed. A question I doubt anyone here gets asked. Can I turn off the RGB feature? One reason for this is that in the past I suffered from epilepsy (very very few problems and fully controlled medically), but I don't risk flashing lights (which means I can't go to raves........).

It's still in stock, you need to select the H115i Platinum?

Yes you can fully turn off all the lights on the fans and any other corsair RGB, you use a bit of software called iCue which controls lighting, fan speeds and pumps etc.

The RM750 has slightly inferior build quality to the RM750x but there's not a lot in it. It's still a better PSU than the TXm, with better build quality and fully modular.

It's always dangerous going off of peoples knee jerk opinions rather than being factual as people tend to side through favouritism rather than hard facts. The RM also has the 10 yr warranty that the RMx has but the TXm doesn't... so clearly Corsair think the same.

With regards to the H115i RGB, it's the quietest AIO cooler you can get. It uses magnetic levitation fans and its reputation precedes it. As suggested, all lighting can be completely disabled. It may even be disabled just by removing the USB header, I can't actually remember. Better to connect it anyway as that may lead to easier fan control.

Agree with Scott. Also on the RM the fan doesn't kick in until 300w so unless you are gaming it's not running. The Tx doesn't have this feature. I've got the RMx but I would still pick the RM over the TX all day long.
