Time for an upgrade?

Hi all,

I purchased this PC around 2 years ago and I am looking to make some upgrades. I mostly use the rig for gaming, online poker and occasionally streaming whilst doing either of these activities.

I do find that when playing games, the PC it will occasionally stick, i'll move the mouse / cross hairs and everything will freeze for a few seconds. It was suggested to me that I was running the frames to high for my monitor however I always enable V-Sync and run the games at the frame rate for my monitor.

My initial thoughts were to either upgrade the GPU however I feel the games are running fine for my 60Hz monitor and this may be overkill. The second option being to install another 2 8gb RAM sticks.

Keen for everyones thoughts... I am aware that I will be told to upgrade that monitor before I do anything else...

If its 'hitching' then there's more than a good chance windows needs flattening and re-installing, people should realise it needs doing every now and again as just maintenance task, I do min every 6months but I install and remove a lot of software all the time, mac users have know this for years, most power users for macs have a 12 month rule, and Windows is no different.

Grab all the stuff you need to keep, download the latest Windows iso and plonk on USB, then FRESH install Windows (not in place upgrade, so from the boot menu),

Garantee your hitch will be gone, the games your playing aren't very demanding, in fact bet the iGPU could handle them for you, the 1060 isn't however very powerful nowadays, it's the 3gb ram that hurts it most, as most games use 4gb vram at least (and AMD have said recently the days of 4gb are over and 6 should be min)

Jumping to one of the 16 or 20 cards would be night and day better for anything that does use gpu, and windows will shortly get the ability to use the Gpu cores for scheduling, so worth it if you ask me.

As for the rest, the 8700k is basically the same part as the current 10500k part for the most part, so that's still upto the task.

But honestly, try a re install (even try a side by side install if you must, either on second disk or create a test partition) I bet the hickups will be gone, frame rates however can only be fixed with a new gpu
