Before we can provide you advice, you have to let us know what you'll do with your laptop
What's your maximum budget
And can you give us the blue link to the config' page ?

Hi
Not sure on laptop uses but likely be running some web software(xamp) and MYSQL database personal use only. Some video editing using MS supplied app. Some MS Office usage. Plus watching films (Netfix etc.) and video clips. MS Teams and ZOOM.

maximum budget is £1200 but I want it nearer £1000.

Config URLs are
https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/saved-configurations/lafite-pro-17/BJvA!QBxf6/
and
https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/saved-configurations/elimina-iii-15/Ksf2RzeTS9/

Thanks for your attention.

There is two things I`d like to amend on these laptops
1: Have the RAM work in pairs for Dual Channel , it will boost performance quite noticeable
2: Up the speed of the memory if you can afford it . Faster memory equals more responsive system . For these 11th gen CPU`s I`d suggest 3200 Mhz memory or at the very least 2933 Mhz . so for 16 GB total memory I`d pick 2x 8 GB 3200 Mhz modules .

Thanks the extra memory cost doesn't seem to much. I am trying to decide between the 2 laptops. The main differences that I can see is 1 is 8 core at 2.3Ghz and the other is 4 core but at 3.3GHz. I am not sure which is better more slower or fewer but faster . Also 1 has a Thunderbolt port is this important?

Only if you use thunderbolt?

They're 2 entirely different categories of laptop.

One (the lafite pro) is a low power thin and light, so low power cpu.

The other is a basic configged gaming laptop.

Neither is very well configured though.

Do you require hardware acceleration for any of your applications? If not then a dedicated gpu is completely redundant.

Thunderbolt is mainly used for fast external storage or external graphics cards or similar high bandwidth products . If you have no intention to use that , I`d reckon to go for option A as it has more cores and is in general a faster CPU than in option B . On the other hand , you have opted for a very fast NVMe SSD in option B and a slower SSD in option A , any reason for it ? I`d guess that you can add a NVMe SSD in option A as well ?

Hi you said neither is configured very well. I have upped the config on one.
I am not sure what I want though.
I am looking for what might be described as a "pretty good" laptop not necessarily a "great" laptop.

But again, what are your uses? I see you mention video editing, for that you'd benefit from a GPU.

That's a quad core processor, I wouldn't recommend anything less than a 6 core these days really.
