Trying to make a 1440p build, unsure on quite a few things.

Awesome post: much easier to give lots of information than for us on the forum to try to extract it like blood from a stone!

That Nitro looks good and it's definitely a good price. (Well, there were 1440p IPS displays under £300 for a while, but they went for some reason...) As you say, I'd definitely go with IPS.

Your build looks great. You're arguably overkill with the cooler, but not in a problematic way. I like the RGB RAM, but for me it's the only RGB in my PC. You'd have the fans as well. Really only you can answer! Your storage looks great. I don't think the X670E upgrade is worth it for you.

The only change I'd make to the PC would be to the graphics card. The upgrade to a 6950XT is about £30 and gains you around 20% in performance. On the one hand, it's overkill for 1440p. On the other hand, it's an astonishingly cheap upgrade and 100% worth it.
Thanks as before for the advice! The GPU upgrade, I would never have considered. It was nearly £200 from the 6750 to the 6800 - I didn't even try the 6950 because it being a £30 upgrade obviously just didn't occur to me! Thanks, I'll definitely go with that! Seems like it must be reduced to clear or something.

The cooler was suggested partly for the way it fits with the case, which I'm fine with. With CPU cooling, I'm 100% reliant on advice. Feel like I'm in the minority, but I'm not too keen on RGB. I'm not sure I like the idea of my PC being really colourful, and I'm worried it might make the kids want to 'play with it' (translation: trash it). From what I can tell, the one I selected doesn't look as colourful as some others? Honestly, I don't understand how RGB works at all...

Never apologise for long posts on here....as noted above, the more details we get about uses, thoughts etc, the better placed we are to advise. Too often I have seen in the past where people don't give enough information (or don't post for advice to begin with) and end up with things they aren't happy with.

I should also note that, as someone who's mantra is "Why use 10 words when 100 is, well, more words?", I applaud long posts and the longer the better :ROFLMAO:
Knowing me, I would have apologised for a short post too, haha.

GPU pricing is a deep mystery. All you can do is try all the options and see which price is best for the performance you need! I've no idea why the 6950XT is priced so (comparatively) well.

And yes, I do see now that you have the subtle cooler, the one that only has RGB on the CPU block as opposed to being on the fans as well. You can actually turn this off if you want to. The only RGB in my PC is on the RAM and I have it set to white (just turning red when the CPU is very hot, because obviously that's exciting).

That sounds good, about the cooler. In terms of looks, that's just what I need.

Looking to get this ordered this evening most likely now, seems like I've got everything balanced, and there's no more reason to wait (especially if it turns out the pricing or stock for the 6950XT is very limited). Obviously if anyone else has advice I'm still open to changes, but I think it all looks set to be honest...

I'm not looking forward to buying a new desk, ideally it will need space for the PC to sit on the desk or at least higher up. A lot of the gaming desks have the PCs set on the floor, the worst thing possible when the kids inevitably spot it. I'll have to be careful picking the right one. And looks like the case is really pretty big, so lots of measuring required...

The RX 6950XT doesn't fit in the case with the CPU cooler selected, uugh...

Any ideas..? Just when I thought I'd cracked it.

I would just grit my teeth and go back to the RX 6800XT even though it's such a cheap upgrade, but if the 6950XT doesn't fit now, I'm just thinking maybe a decent 1440p card won't fit several years from now.

I thought the case was really pretty big too... -_-

Edit: Out of curiosity, I tried it with two different models of the RTX 4090, the 4080, the RX 7900XT and the 7900XTX - it allowed all of them! The 6950XT is apparently the only one that won't fit and the biggest graphics card on the market right now..? How can it be bigger than the 4090? Unless it's just weirdly...long? I don't know, I don't get it.

It does fit; the config tool is bugged. My guess is that the longest 6950XT PCS get is that long, so they have to be cautious. But they're being too cautious: it will fit if you put the cooler in the top of the case, as you normally would. The tool assumes (wrongly) that the cooler goes in the front of the case, where it could interfere with the GPU. If you can bear it, my suggestion would be to call PCS on Tuesday and speak to them about it. The price really is just too good to pass over...

Yeah, I didn't want to add another edit, but I looked up all the different sizes of the 6950XT, I think the biggest was around 32cm long, and that was way out in front, so I figured the config was glitching out (it said it was 39cm long)

I'll hang on until Tuesday, shouldn't affect the preorder queue for the 7800X3D, and I really want to receive it next month when I'm off work so I've got time to properly set it up. Was a bit worried about the 6950XT selling out in that time (that's got to be a very limited stock clearance), but hopefully if it's bugged, no-one else will be able to configure it either.

Thanks again!

You could get the order in by ordering it with an air cooler, the FrostFlow 100, then calling on Tuesday to say you need to change the order to the proper cooler. That way you get the order locked in and your place in the queue guaranteed...

Yep, just checked, it's letting me do that - will do that, thanks for the tip!

Just ordered - phew! Will hopefully just need a quick phonecall to fix the cooler config. Thanks everyone for all the advice. Without it, I would have ended up with a much, much worse deal, so I'm very grateful!

Will be sure to post pictures of it when it's up and running!

So sorry to bump this thread again, but was told that the Corsair 5000D case shipment has fallen through and the next one won't be for another month.

Just wondered if anyone knows if choosing the Corsair iCUE 5000X RGB would impact the build. It does look prettier for sure, but I don't know if the different fan locations would impact the space for the GPU and CPU cooler (a very newbie question, I know..).

I'm wondering if it will be a lot heavier too, since it would be on the desk to keep it safe from the kids, was a bit hard to find an answer to that online (hoping you can turn the front fan RGBs off too..)

Good news is they let me change the CPU cooler to the correct one while keeping the 6950XT at that bargain price! So chuffed, really thought that the price was a glitch or something.

(I did think about sending in my own case, getting one from Currys, but for some reason they're quite a lot cheaper on PCS)

Honestly, the configurator is all over the place. The 5000X is only available to select when amending my current order. Making a new build it's not an option. When I ordered it, the 5000D did come up with an awaiting stock warning to be fair, which said ETA 11/04. PCS said tomorrow they should know the stock situation for sure.

Hopefully I'm left with at least one option. And if the 5000X doesn't interfere with space and CPU cooling, it might be a solid choice.
