Posting that kinda spec here is just mean... I think my heart just shed a tear for the complete destruction of my machines pride :(

That's probably as good as you can get tbh. Except maybe you can get it overclocked from PCS? It's hard to maintain, risky, power consuming, but if you're going all out, why not? xDD

Man up Linear, and tell him he skimped on the CPU Cooler! ;).

Nah, seriously though, that's as good as it's gonna get at this moment in time, the only feedback you'll get will be the sort that will curse you for buying 2 GTX590's in one build :p.

As ever with these uber rigs, you can just look in awe. However, you can pick apart a few things like...do you really need 2x590s? What would the benefit be? Its your money, but for gaming purposes, I just cant see the need. 1x590? Sure. Then, in a years time, get a second one...690 maybe? Could even just replace 590 with a better one down the line.

But noone is going to beable to improve the rig I wouldnt think, but will leave the Mods to tell you if anything is due in the next month or so :D

wouldn't he be better off with a I7-2600k instead of the 990-X? the 2600k edges out the 990-x in games ( especially when both are overclocked) from what i've seen, the 990 only ever wins out in applications built to make use of 12 simultaneous (six core) threads at once (like when running Benchmarking suites / Super pi) as opposed to the 2600k's 8 (quad core) threads, which the majority of games aren't.

That's without considering that the 2600k would be half the price.

And have you considered going for a larger SSD (240gb) and trading the velociraptor drive for a big storage drive? run your OS and programs from the SSD for lightning quick load times, whilst having a nice sturdy chunk of storage for data, or perhaps just those games that don't need much loading all the time. (120GB will fill up fast if like me you have a bunch of different games installed at any one time, especially as games seem to be getting bigger and bigger all the time).

i wonder just how hot that thing will get with two 590's and the 990 blazing away inside of it? bet that might just about do metro on top settings though! xD

just passing thoughts.. the two above are the real experts!

No that is very true I'll give you that, save himself £300 too if he went for the 2600k setup, although they don't do 12GB RAM on those, it'll have to be 16GB.

Quick question for $apper though, did that build include monitors or not?

As for the alternative sandy bridge build, here it is.

Just a little word of advice for the 2 590's though, they are REALLY hard to get hold of atm due to nVidia limiting stock out etc. So if you do order it you may be waiting a while!

AND

I love how you named this thread Uber Desktop when you're in Germany atm haha, genius!

I can see why you might go for the 2600/k, but personally I'd stick with the 990x with that kinda budget :D

Yeah same here tbh, just thought i'd pop up an alternative for the guy, just incase :). Did you see what i did though Linear?

I DIDN'T SKIMP ON THE CPU COOLER ;).

Well... the maximus doesn't have as many pci slots as the Sabertooth so meh, to get the audio card and the wireless with 2 590's it had to be the Sabertooth :p

Haf - x case, particularly good at GPU cooling ( and those 590's will want cooling!) you've got an oc'd 2600k which at 4.8 will beat the living daylights out of a 990-x (oc'd to say 4.2ghz which is the max pcs does) in game performance, is cheaper, and has a power surge protector thrown in.

and for some reason it decided it wanted a blu ray re-writer drive.. save £40 by cutting that out to the blu ray drive you picked xD

Thanks for the replys guys much appreciated, and soz to linear I was kind of bragging but i couldnt help myself! :D

The main reason im spending this much is because iv just cancelled a Kobalt G170 laptop as i realized i dont need to be as mobile as i used to and i could get a much more powerful desktop for a similar price.

2 590's is a bit overkill i know, perhaps upping the SSD like Trackeri said may be a better idea, I have a 1Tb external for storage tho so my 2nd drive is fine as is.

The sandy bridge build sounds like a good idea tho, my G170 was going to be a sandy bridge but i wasnt shure which to go for, also i know the OCZ SSDs dont like the sandy bridge chipsets so id have to change that.

Im buying the monitor, keyboard and mouse separately as im after some Razor kit.

Roughly how long would you say it would take to get hold of a 590, as if its gona take a while i may order earlier so i can pick up the machine when im on leave?

Also I WONT SKIMP ON THE CPU COOLER!!!

Well so far I've heard nothing but good things about the OCZ 3 series working with sandy bridge chipsets, but if you've heard otherwise and want to change it to the Intel 5 series that's fine, well in the last week or 2 I heard PCS got 2 or 3 in, so I'd order now so it'd be ready for when you're able to get back to pick it up. (I dont suppose you're in the forces are you? Just you mentioned leave and I remember doing a few months in Germany when I joined).

Haha, I was only joking, although if you're oc'ing I would defo recommend the best water cooler for it :)

I would DEFINITELY recommend the Razer Blackwidow keyboard... not the most expensive, flashy or radical keyboard, but it's got enough features for gaming use, fantastic value for money and the keys are addictive to type/game on. You could even go for the Ultimate version which has LED backlighting and USB/Audio ports on the keyboard itself, but it costs more and isn't the most practical in reality. :)

Yea i know the kobalt lads had a real nightmare with Vertex 2 and 3s BSODing when used in a sandy bridge system, but maybe it was just the mobile chipsets.

Iv always been a little wary of oc'ing and i doubt il need to with the spec im getting, but i know cooling will be pretty important with (potentialy) 2 590s in there.

The only thing im realy stuck on is the 2600k or the 990. :S

I was lookin at the Blackwidow on amazon earlier, not a bad shout :)

Im in the Royal Engineers, stuck at camp while my mates are in afghan cos i broke my knee training... winner!

Ah fair enough well the Intel 5 series are just as good on paper :). I don't think you'd need to OC really you're running a very high end machine already, it doesn't need any more performance boosts (at the moment :p) and as for the two 590's all you need is a good case and a good set of fans set up in push pull config to keep the air flowing :). Personally, 2600, but it's down to preference really. Ah bad times, I'm in the Signals, Communications Systems Engineer, got some time off atm so making the most of it! Hope your knee heals quick!
