#2 UPDATE 22/01: The review will take longer. I have run into technical issues with the device and currently liaising with PCS to fix.

Update: The laptop was returned. Due to the problems faced with the unit, I returned the laptop for a refund.

Hi all,

New on the forum bloc but been a PC Specialist customer since my first PCS laptop in December 2014, an Optimus V.

To cut a 29 day journey sort, I have recently been through a big dilemma with Razer with the purchasing of one of their Blade 15s, broken on arrival, and a subsequent 24 day journey of getting my money back which has finally concluded last night. The hunt for a new device begins, and I am eager to make it again be a PC Specialist built laptop.

The advice I am seeking at this current stage is with regards to this 'new' Vyper II 15.6' model. I cannot find any reviews on the device or the origin of its chassie. Are there any buyers on here

  • -How is the feel of the laptop compared to plastic modelled laptops, does the chassis originate from any other device?
  • -How is its alleged 'High Capacity 62Wh Battery ' in day-to-day performance, both gaming and generally?
  • -How does it feel to open the laptop with such small bezzles, do you worry for the screen?
  • -Have you had any issues with the device?

Anyone else with any knowledge or resources on this device will be highly appreciated.

It's a very new offering from PCS so not many people will have one yet I expect.

I don't own one, but the small bezels are pretty normal on things like the more established Recoil models.

Like the recoils, it's a Tongfang chassis, apparently a TONGFANG GK5CP7Y

I looked into it and it does seem a very new chassis. I am unable to find any written or video reviews from both PCS customers or any owners of the device from other sellers, so it seems to be quite a shot in the dark.

People have generally found the Recoil chassis to be good - that's about all there is to say I guess.

Not sure what the options are. Buy something else, wait a while for people to buy and post reviews if they even do, or buy one and exercise your return rights if you find it's not for you.

I have contacted pcs too regarding this very laptop as it looks like the eluktronics/intel chassis.
check this out I have a bottom shot.

it also has a plastic mousepad with a glaze on top
im still doing my homework on this or the recoil IIIgtx 17"

I've in fact made a purchase of the Vyper II, on the 2nd of January. It is so far 6 working days into the order, and it started building today.

Seeing as I will be one of the first to get it, I'll be sure to give it a detailed analysis before I post a review of the device. Having two devices needing to be returned after purchase within the last 6 months - one from ASUS, the other Razer, I'll be very thorough to ensure I do not go through the same situations as the previous, but that PCS test their devices, I should hope I will not face the same issues.

I'm waiting for a review too, especially one with the regular (no maxQ) laptop RTX 2070.
Very curious about the thermals in this configuration as i don't know any other laptop under 2.44 cm thin with a full RTX 2070, the Vyper II being listed well below that at only 1.97cm....

I ordered the Vyper 2 and should arrive on Friday. I will report to you. I ordered the version with the RTX 2070. If you want to know something special about the device just let me know.

The only issue is that the LED bar does not work (only during boot). Do I perhaps need a different version of GamingCenter?

In fairness, saying you bought the laptop from elsewhere and then asking for support on forums provided by a competing company is possibly a little bit much? :) Have you asked the company you bought it from for support? Did they give you an answer?

You are right. I have contacted them and they said that they will check if there is a newer version available.

But there is perhaps a user which does not have the LED bar issue?

As above, we can’t give advice on competitor products or self builds, next to check the manufacturers forums.

Some questions:

Is the full chassis is magnesium alloy ( even the bottom panel? )
Is the touchpad plastic or glass?
Is the gpu MAX-P or MAX-Q?

Another provider specifies the touch pad with glass. ( Mouse: Glass Microsoft Precision (PTP) Touchpad with multi-gesture & scrolling function )

The Max-P variant is installed.

I'm considering this laptop and am wondering about temperatures vs longevity - if any owners have one (general input also appreciated);

What sort of temperatures are you getting at idle / 20% CPU / 50% CPU?

I don't intend to do any heavy modern gaming, maybe a bit of photoshop and izotope (audio) editing which can be CPU intensive. I like the fact this laptop is metal (should aid cooling?), portable, can support dual monitor, and basically be a desktop replacement for an average user like myself.

Ideally I would like it to last 7+ years like my current PCS Genesis IV has.

Hi my new Vyper II laptop arrived yesterday. It is an I7 with an RTX 2060. Unfortunately I have had an issue with it as on starting it after 5 minutes it started smoking from around the D key on the keyboard and smelling very hot! Not the perfect start really. PC Specialist helpful so far. It looks to me like a fan lead has got damaged by being pushed into s screw head. I am concerned what damage may have been done, Will see how the customer services is now?!
