Upgrading to 3080ti

Hi, pc bought 4 years ago from pc specialist and looking to upgrade my system to a 3080ti from the 2080ti (got a cheap deal) and I am bit confused how the cabling to the psu works. As far as I can see there is one 8 pin connector from the psu which splits into 2 8 pin connectors on the other to the gpu. On the psu itself I can see 2 8 pin slot available under peripherals/sata section, although one slot free is on the top row second in from the left and the other is the second row third in from the left. My question is what do I need to do to correctly set up the 3080ti with cables where the may go on the psu.

You need the 6+2 pins, it's best practice to use 2 individual ones, don't use a splitter as that can overload the cable.

There is an extra one on the top row too. But you only need 2.

But it looks like your current GPU is using 2 x 6+2's as it is, so you can use the same ones.

Yep, to one of the 6+2's, you should have spare PSU cables in your welcome box.

Don't use cables you may have left over from another PSU, they're often not compatible and use different pinouts and can lead to shorts.

If you did need to buy a cable, you have to make sure it's the right type for the generation of your PSU

A 6+2 is an 8pin cable but the last 2 pins can be separated to allow for 6pin GPU connectors

just a follow up question, the three cables that come with the pc look like it’s 8 pin into the psu and comes into 2 connections 6+2 pin connector on the gpu, as far i as I can tell that’s how the 2080ti is plugged in at the moment from that one cable. Would it be fine to just use another of the same cable I have that came with the pc then effectively one of the 6+2 pin connector is just dangling to the side of the gpu as only one is needed, hope that’s makes sense

It's best not to use a splitter so have 3 individual cables from 3 psu ports.

You can use tge normal cables that have the splitter, just don't use the splitter to connect the ports, have 3 individual cables.
