I ordered a £12 Usb-3 to VGA adaptor from Amazon before trying more expensive add ons.

I also asked for a support from the PcSpecialists' help.

Will update you with the news.

It's been confirmed with PcSpecialist that USB-C doesn't have video output on Fusion IV series:

"Unfortunately, this laptop doesn´t offer video output through the USB type C port."

And that's much of it really, there is no suggestions about how to use multiple screens with the laptop. So I specifically asked it again.

Let's see how it goes.

Does it offer display link through the conventional USB 3 port? My work laptop connects to my DisplayLink hub using USB-C but it also has a USB-C to USB-A adapter so that the conventional port can be used.

I've received my external adaptor from Amazon and not a surprise, it's absolutely worthless. The visual is so blurry, you may easily can loose your sight. So I've sent it for the adaptor to return and refund.

There are however more expensive and more solid adaptors, worth to give a try. I think I'll also try DisplayLink.

And from the PCSpecialist side of things, our communication is ABSOLUTELY slow. A question can only be answered next day. And I can't get any answer from Wednesday yet (that's even slower).

My return period with PcSpeacialist is finished yesterday, but I also saw in the return policy that it was not even possible once laptop is bought by business acount:

"If you are contracting as a Business / Trade customer, this clause does not apply. Any orders by or on behalf of a business cannot be cancelled once they have been placed. An order will be deemed to be a Business Order, if it is paid via business bank account or business debit / credit card, or a company address or purchase order number has been provided."

I couldn't hear from them as I said yet, will inform you with the news.

@Scott, yes, there are a lot of video adapters on the market that can use USB-3 ports to generate and extend displays. I started testing with a £9 item on Amazon, which I sent back the day it arrived, as it supports 1920x1080 only if you can understand what hides behind the blur.

Buying cheap video adapters on Amazon (edit - and presumably anywhere else) is a minefield.

Which I say from rather recent personal experience.

I think the lesson here is 'assumption is the mother of all..ups'. Got to do your research before you buy anything, whether a laptop or adapter.

At least it's a business expense and not a personal one.

How can you make your research well before buying anything online? I have a deep look at reviews, specs, information given by the product manufacturers.

In this case,

I had a look for Google and Trustpilot for PcSpecialist. Searched on social media. I've spoken with my friends if they are really used their services. I've come here and looked at the forums. I decided it's worthwhile to go. The same specs at high street is two times expensive.

For the Amazon's cheap adaptors, I again looked at the reviews, comments and specs of the product. But as said, I wanted to see the cheap version before jumping into more expensive solutions (not based on an assumption that it would work or not, just gave a try).

As my calculations, if an additional display costs you %10 to your total expense, it's not affordable, it's an expensive solution. And let's not forget, I shouldn't have to go to market and search how I could be able to use multiple monitors in the first place, a USB-C port should be able to work with alternate modes, unless it's underlined that it simply can't.

Anyways, I think if there is any lesson should be learned here, PcSpecialist need to be more descriptive on how they list things. Not saying they gave false information or making false advertisement but not including details for each simple item might cause bigger problems just like here.

And just to note, a business expense might be much more important than a personal one if you are trying to run your business solely with a very tight budget.

...
While writing this, I received a confirmation from PCSpeacialist that for my case specific, I would be able to return the laptop and get a refund.

And thank you all for trying to help me with the process, all is well appreciated!

That’s not correct, if it graphics enabled or thunderbolt USB C it will always state that in the description, anywhere that just says usb c, it’s just usb c. That’s the misunderstanding. For any tech buy, always get advice if it’s tech you’re not familiar with.

Thanks for the advice, you are absolutely right! Always get advice, that's a must.

But I believe we reached out a point that a usb-c is not just usb-c (in modern tech world of 2020) unless it's explicitly specified what that is.

If a tech is capable of doing multiple things and the use cases are extended widely and accepted as standards with large amount of tech manufacturers, you better tell what you can do with it to avoid any inconvenience (simple, USB-C (data only), that's it).

If you don't believe that Usb-c tech is there yet, it's ok, I respect that.

Whilst I agree PCS could add clarity by saying 'USB-C data transfer only' in detailed specs to remove any ambiguity, or perhaps use the varying USB-C icons, you did make an assumption about how USB-C works. It's not PCS job to explain how the tech actually works in all fairness.

I think you need to recognise that you made an assumption. For the sake of your future business purchases.

But that’s the point, usb c CAN’T do other things, it’s simply a data connector. It’s only when you add separate controllers to the input that it can carry other transports. Anyone in IT hearing USB C will think data only. It’s only if it states DP OVER USB C, or thunderbolt over usb c that you would consider it as anything else.

I have to agree with the point that it's data only unless otherwise stated.

That's like saying every car should be able to float because there are cars that can. It doesn't work like that unfortunately.

Always, always, assume the lowest standard of anything unless otherwise stated. If it had it, it would be advertised as it's a useful feature to have so would always be promoted.

@SS, Yes, I made the assumption. Hope no-one else does.

@SpyderTracks, you are right. I am not a good IT guy. Hope everyone else is : )

@Scott, if all the cars are already floating and you go to a car manufacturer, offer a special high-spec NEW car for your specific needs, unfortunately you may easily have the assumption that your car will also float naturally. I think I was on the wrong side of the industry where I saw all the cars were floating and was shocked while my performance custom car simply wasn't. Again, that's my fault, hope no-one else does.

The best place to research your build and to ask questions about what you need is to ask on here. Almost none of us work for PCS so we can be objective, and collectively there is a wealth of knowledge and experience on here.

I would even suggest that no-one, except the very experienced, should buy from PCS without checking their build on here...
